DABMAN 12 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion battery is a direct replacement for the DABMAN 12 two-way radio. It slots into the same housing as the original pack and connects to the same contact points. Use it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or the radio shuts down mid-use.

• DABMAN 12 compatibility: The DABMAN 12 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion architecture. This pack matches that voltage rail and physical footprint, so the BMS handshake initialises correctly on first insertion without any modification.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads on a Li-ion test rig. The BMS held stable under the PTT current spike and recovered voltage cleanly after each transmit burst — no overcurrent trip was recorded at rated load.
• Contact strip care on first insertion: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The dock requires a clean contact cycle to recognise the new BMS before charging begins.

Why the DABMAN 12 cuts out when PTT is pressed on a new battery

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V, not a fully charged 4.2V. When PTT is pressed, the radio draws a short transmit current spike that can push the BMS below its low-voltage cutoff threshold if the cell is not yet charged. The radio interprets this as a depleted pack and shuts the transmitter down. Charge the battery fully in the dock before the first transmission to avoid this trip.

The DABMAN 12 reads battery level through simple voltage thresholds — it has no fuel gauge chip. A new cell sitting at storage voltage of around 3.6V will register as one or two bars rather than full. This is not a fault with the replacement pack. Place the battery in the charger dock until the charge cycle completes and the indicator reaches a full charge voltage of approximately 4.2V, then reinsert — the bar display will reflect the actual charge state.
