Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Chromebook 11 3180 / 3189 / 3100 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (51KD7)
This is an 11.1V, 3550mAh Li-ion battery that replaces the original cell in the Dell Chromebook 11 3180, 3189, and 3100. It also cross-references OEM part numbers Y07HK and FY8XM. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or fails to register in Chrome OS.
- Chromebook 11 3180, 3189, and 3100 fitment: All three models share the same 11.1V battery rail, physical connector, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the entire range without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Chromebook 11 3180. The BMS accepted the new cell without tripping overcurrent protection, and the fuel gauge IC began tracking state-of-charge correctly after two calibration cycles.
- BIOS learn cycle after install: After fitting this cell, run the Chromebook down until it hibernates on low battery, then charge it uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the false "battery health poor" warning that appears after every cell swap on these Dell Chromebooks.
Why the Chromebook 11 shuts down at 20–30% after a battery swap
The fuel gauge IC on these boards stores discharge curve data calibrated to the original cell. A new cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile, so the IC misreads state-of-charge under load. When the CPU and display draw peaks simultaneously, the cell voltage drops faster than the IC expects, and the system interprets it as a low-battery shutdown. Two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles re-calibrate the IC against the new cell's actual curve. After that, the gauge tracks accurately and the early shutdowns stop.
BIOS reporting 0% or "unknown" battery immediately after fitting the new cell
The BIOS reads battery identity and health data from the cell's EEPROM. When a replacement cell arrives, the EEPROM contains data that does not match the charge history the BIOS expects, so it flags the battery as unknown or reports 0%. This is not a fault with the cell. Boot the Chromebook on AC power, let Chrome OS fully load, then unplug and allow it to discharge normally. The BIOS will re-read the EEPROM and update battery status correctly — confirm by checking chrome://system and locating the battery_status field.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dell Chromebook 11 3180 keeps shutting down at around 25% even with the new battery installed — why?
The fuel gauge IC on these boards is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell has a different internal resistance, so the IC underestimates remaining charge under full CPU and display load. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100%. After those calibration cycles, the gauge re-aligns to the new cell and the early shutdowns stop.
Chrome OS is showing the new battery's Wh rating as lower than the original — is the cell faulty?
The Wh value Chrome OS displays is read from the cell's EEPROM, not measured in real time. Replacement cells sometimes carry EEPROM-rated values that differ slightly from the original OEM figure due to chemistry tolerance differences between production runs. The actual delivered capacity is not affected. Check chrome://system under battery_energy_full_design — if it reads within 10% of 39.41Wh, the cell is performing correctly.
The new battery stopped charging at 80% and won't go higher — is something wrong with the cell?
This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. Dell's firmware on the Chromebook 11 series includes a charge threshold setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear during AC-connected use. Open Chrome OS Settings, navigate to Device, then Battery, and switch the charge mode from "Adaptive" or "80%" to "Standard." The cell will then charge to 100% on the next charge cycle.
