Two to three full calibration cycles — discharge to hibernate, charge to 100% uninterrupted — realign the IC to the new cell's actual curve.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after installation

Dell's BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM register, which on a new replacement cell contains factory default values that don't yet reflect a completed charge cycle. The BIOS interprets those defaults as a degraded state and flags poor health. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the cell. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete uninterrupted charge to 100% — the BIOS learn cycle will rewrite the health register and the warning will clear.

My Dell G3 15 shuts down suddenly while gaming even though the battery gauge shows 25% left — is the replacement cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC on the G3 15 calibrates its discharge curve against the original cell's EEPROM data, and a new cell has different charge characteristics. Under the combined load of the CPU, GPU, and display, the new cell hits a voltage cliff before the IC expects it, causing a hard shutdown. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100% — this retrains the IC against the new cell and eliminates the early cutoff.

The Dell G3 15 BIOS shows the wrong Wh rating for the replacement battery — it lists something different from the 63.08Wh spec on the label. Why?

The Wh figure the BIOS displays is read directly from the battery's EEPROM register, which stores the manufacturer-rated value programmed at the factory. Replacement cells may carry a slightly different rated value in that register depending on the production batch, while the actual delivered energy aligns with the 63.08Wh spec. This is an EEPROM data difference, not a capacity defect. Check the Dell Battery Meter in Windows — after two full calibration cycles the reported figure typically stabilises closer to the rated spec.

The new battery charges to about 80% and then stops — the G3 15 won't charge past that point no matter how long it stays plugged in.

This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a fault with the replacement cell. Dell laptops with Battery Extender or similar firmware features cap charging at 80% by default to reduce cell wear during prolonged AC use. Open Dell Power Manager (or Dell Command | Configure on managed systems), navigate to the battery settings, and set the charge stop threshold to 100%. After saving the change, the next charge cycle will run to full capacity.
