This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The old calibration data causes the OS to misread remaining charge, and the system hits a hard voltage cutoff while the display still shows capacity remaining. It is not a faulty cell. Force a full discharge to hibernate, let it sit for five minutes, then charge to 100% without interruption — repeat this twice. After two calibration cycles the gauge will track accurately and the early shutdowns stop.

The 83.22Wh figure in Windows comes from the EEPROM data written to the cell, which reflects the actual chemistry. Some third-party listings carry the rated Wh from older OEM spec sheets, which can differ slightly from the measured value. The cell we ship is 11.4V at 7300mAh — that math puts it at 83.22Wh, and that is what the system will report once the BMS handshake completes. Trust the Windows report after a full charge cycle, not pre-install spec comparisons.

My Precision 3510 charge stops at 80% and won't go higher — is the replacement battery defective?

Almost certainly not. Dell's firmware includes a BIOS-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% when "Primary AC Use" or a similar battery-preservation mode is active. This is a firmware setting, not a battery fault. Open Dell Power Manager, go to Battery Settings, and switch the charge mode to "Primarily AC" or "Adaptive" — depending on your BIOS version, the cap lifts immediately and the cell charges to 100%.
