Fits Dell Studio XPS 16 models; replaces OEM part numbers 312-0815, X411C, W303C, U011C, 312-0814, W298C.
11.1V, 4400mAh chemistry delivers 48.84Wh — matches original output for full CPU and display load cycles.
Connector slides straight into the existing battery slot with a single locking tab on the left edge.
We bench-tested this cell at 11.1V under sustained load; the BMS held voltage flat through the discharge curve with no early cutoff.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Studio XPS 16 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (312-0815)

This is an 11.1V, 4400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Dell Studio XPS 16, Studio XPS 1640, Studio XPS M1640, and Studio XPS 16 1647. It replaces OEM parts 312-0815, X411C, W303C, U011C, 312-0814, and W298C. If your original battery no longer holds charge or has failed entirely, this cell restores unplugged use to the notebook.

  • Studio XPS 16 series fit: The 1640 and 1647 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both board revisions without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a Studio XPS 1640 and confirmed the BMS completed charge handshake, reported state-of-charge correctly to the OS, and held voltage under combined CPU and GPU load without triggering protection cutoff.
  • Post-install discharge cycle on the Studio XPS 16: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor after replacing the cell

The Studio XPS BIOS reads battery health from EEPROM data stored on the battery's fuel gauge IC. When a new cell is installed, that EEPROM carries factory baseline figures — not values calibrated to your specific board. The BIOS compares current state against the old cell's learned data and flags a mismatch as degraded health. Running two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge cycles gives the fuel gauge IC enough data to overwrite those baseline figures with accurate readings.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on the meter

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The OS reads a fuel gauge estimate, not live cell voltage — so the percentage shown can be several points higher than the real remaining capacity. Under full CPU and display load, the cell hits its low-voltage cutoff before the meter reaches zero. Run two complete discharge cycles to calibrate the gauge; after that, shutdowns should align with 5% or below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dell Diagnostics says the battery health is "Poor" but the cell is brand new — what's wrong?

The Studio XPS BIOS pulls health data from the EEPROM on the fuel gauge IC, not from live cell measurements. A freshly installed cell carries factory baseline figures that don't match your board's learned charge history, so the BIOS flags it as degraded. This is not a fault with the cell. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100% — the BIOS health status should update to normal after the second cycle.

Windows is showing a completely different Wh rating than what the battery specs list — is something wrong?

The Wh figure Windows reads comes from the EEPROM on the battery's fuel gauge IC, which stores a rated design capacity set at the factory. That figure is based on nominal cell chemistry and can differ from the actual measured capacity at any given calibration state. It is not a sign of a faulty cell. After two full calibration cycles, the reported value will stabilise closer to the 48.84Wh specification on the label.

The new battery charged to 80% and just stopped — the laptop won't charge it any further.

Dell's BIOS on the Studio XPS 16 includes a charge-limit setting that caps charging at 80% when "primarily AC" mode is active in Dell Power Manager. Check Dell Power Manager under the battery settings tab and switch the charge mode to "Adaptive" or "Full Charge." If Dell Power Manager is not installed, access the setting in BIOS under Power Management — set "Battery Charge Configuration" to Standard to allow a full charge to 100%.
