Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Deviser AE2300 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-1787)
This 7.4V 4000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the HYLB-1787 pack in the Deviser AE2300, AE2300H, and AE2300L total stations. It fits the same connector housing and communicates with the instrument's BMS over the same handshake protocol as the factory pack. Capacity is rated at 29.6Wh — sourced from product data, not estimated.
- AE2300, AE2300H, and AE2300L compatibility: All three variants share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol, which is why a single HYLB-1787 pack covers the whole AE2300 platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge sequences and monitored BMS response during motor-drive initialisation. The protection circuit held voltage within the accepted window at startup without tripping into cutoff.
- First-deployment calibration: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the AE2300's instrument menu before heading to site. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skip this and you will see premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session in the field.
BMS lockout after the AE2300 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack voltage drops below roughly 2.5V per cell — around 5.0V total for a 2S pack like this one — the BMS trips into deep-discharge lockout and will not respond to a charger. The instrument will not power on, and the charger shows no charging activity. To recover, apply a compatible charger that supports a trickle or pre-charge mode, which slowly raises cell voltage until the BMS re-enables the charge path. Once voltage climbs above the recovery threshold, normal charging resumes automatically.
AE2300 shutting down mid-measurement with a charged pack
The angle encoder and EDM module together draw a short current spike when the instrument initialises a measurement — particularly during distance lock-on. If the cell internal resistance is elevated, this spike causes a momentary voltage sag that crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff threshold, and the instrument shuts off even though the battery was showing adequate charge. This is not a low-capacity problem; it is a resistance problem caused by aged or cold cells. At ambient temperatures below 5°C, warm the instrument to room temperature first, then retry — if shutdown persists above 10°C, the cell impedance has risen beyond usable range and replacement is the correct step.

Frequently Asked Questions
My AE2300 powers on fine but shuts off the moment it starts measuring distance — why?
The EDM module draws a sharp current spike during distance lock-on, and if cell impedance is elevated, that spike drops voltage far enough to trigger BMS cutoff. This can happen even when the battery indicator looks healthy. Check ambient temperature first — below 5°C will make this worse. If shutdowns continue above 10°C with a new pack, confirm the charger brought the battery to a full 8.4V before field use.
My replacement HYLB-1787 pack won't charge after the AE2300 spent months in storage — charger shows nothing.
The cells discharged below the BMS recovery threshold during storage — typically under 5.0V for this 2S pack — and the BMS locked out the charge path entirely. A standard charger will not wake it. Use a charger with a trickle or pre-charge mode that applies a low current to raise cell voltage gradually. Once cells climb back above the recovery threshold, the BMS re-enables the charge circuit and normal charging begins.
The AE2300 was logging coordinate data fine, then the screen reset mid-session and lost the last few points — what caused that?
This is a voltage dropout under sustained sensor load. During a continuous logging session, the combined draw from the angle encoders, display, and data logging holds current demand high — long enough for a fatigued or partially discharged cell to sag below the instrument's operating threshold, triggering a reset. It is not a firmware issue. Check that the battery was fully charged to 8.4V before the session, and after fitting a new pack, run the calibration cycle through the instrument menu so the AE2300 correctly maps the new cell's discharge curve before the next field deployment.
