Fits DeWalt 2802K and 110+ models; replaces OEM part 152250-27, DC9071, DE9071, DW9071, and eight other DeWalt 12V battery part numbers.
12V, 1500mAh capacity delivers adequate power for fastening and drilling on compact drills without extended multi-hour runtime expectations.
Connector slides straight onto the charger dock with a positive latch; ensure the contact rails on your charger are clean before first insertion.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on a DeWalt 2812K drill—BMS accepted charge without fault codes and motor inrush current stayed within expected thresholds.
On first use, trigger the drill at half throttle for two cycles before full torque fastening work; allows the pack to establish thermal baseline in the tool housing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

DeWalt 2802K / 2812K Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (DC9071 / DE9071)

This is a 12V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the DeWalt 2802K compact cordless drill/driver and related 12V platform tools. It replaces OEM part numbers including DC9071, DE9071, DE9075, DW9072, and DE9501, among others. Voltage matches the original 12V rail; capacity is 1500mAh (18Wh) as specified.

  • 12V DeWalt platform fit: The 2802K, 2812B, 2812K, and 2832K share the same 12V Ni-MH pack format — identical connector pin-out, cell count, and BMS handshake voltage. One pack covers the full series without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and load cycles on a 12V DeWalt drill platform. The BMS held cutoff thresholds consistent with the OEM spec, and cell balance stayed within acceptable delta-V across discharge.
  • Motor inrush break-in on first use: Run the drill at half load for two cycles before applying maximum torque. This lets the BMS log the motor inrush current draw and calibrate its overcurrent protection threshold before you hit full-load fastening.

BMS overcurrent trip on trigger-pull inrush in the 2802K

The 2802K motor pulls a sharp current spike in the first milliseconds of each trigger pull. A new or cold Ni-MH pack has slightly elevated internal resistance, which can push the instantaneous voltage drop past the BMS overcurrent threshold before the motor reaches running speed. This trips the pack off before the drill does any work. Running two half-load break-in cycles reduces internal resistance enough to keep inrush within the BMS window.

Charger won't recognise the pack after it's been sitting unused

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage — if the pack voltage drops below roughly 10V total (around 0.83V per cell in a 12-cell pack), some DeWalt 12V chargers will refuse to start a charge cycle and signal a fault. The fix is a brief trickle charge at low current to bring cell voltage back above the charger's acceptance threshold. If your charger has a conditioning or recovery mode, use it now. Otherwise, a compatible Ni-MH charger set to 100–200mA will recover the pack in a slow charge cycle before normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DeWalt 2802K cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tough screw — is the new battery faulty?

It's not faulty — it's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor inrush current exceeding the protection threshold on a cold or new pack. Fresh Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance, so the voltage drops sharply on that first spike. Run two half-load cycles first: drill into softwood at low torque before going back to hard fastening. That burns in the cells and drops internal resistance enough to keep trigger-pull inrush inside the BMS window.

The drill feels weak and bogs down halfway through a hole even with a fully charged pack — what's happening?

That's voltage sag under sustained load, not a capacity problem. Check the contact points on the battery slot — any oxidation or debris on the rail contacts adds resistance and drops usable voltage under draw. Clean the contacts on both the pack and the tool with a dry cloth or fine abrasive. If sag persists after cleaning, the pack cells may be unbalanced; run a full discharge-to-cutoff followed by a full charge to let the BMS re-profile the cell stack.

Cold morning on site — the 2802K barely turns over even though the pack charged fine indoors the night before?

Ni-MH internal resistance rises significantly below 5°C, and the 2802K motor draws enough current that the voltage drop under cold-cell conditions can trigger a low-voltage cutoff before the pack actually runs out of charge. Keep the battery in a jacket pocket or cab until you're ready to use it — even five minutes at body temperature drops internal resistance enough for normal operation. Once the cells warm up through a couple of trigger pulls, output returns to rated levels.
