Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still running the old cell's voltage-to-capacity curve and the new cell hits its actual low-voltage cutoff earlier than the display predicts. Under modem or screen load, the cell voltage drops sharply below the BMS protection threshold — typically around 3.0V — before the OS has registered low battery. The fix is the same calibration cycle: drain to automatic shutdown, then charge fully without interruption. After two full cycles the gauge tracks the new cell accurately and the early shutdowns stop.

The phone won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months before I installed it — what do I do?

The Touch Pro HD's charge IC may refuse to start a standard charge cycle on a cell this far discharged. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC should apply a low-current pre-charge trickle to bring the cell voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

The Touch Pro HD feels noticeably warm near the battery compartment during the first few charges — is that normal?

A new high-impedance cell generates more heat during charging than a broken-in cell does. The Touch Pro HD's charge IC pushes constant current into the cell until it reaches 4.2V, and a fresh cell's internal resistance is slightly higher, converting more energy to heat in those first cycles. This reduces after two or three full charge cycles as the cell's impedance settles. If the device becomes too hot to hold comfortably or the screen shuts off from thermal protection, disconnect and let it cool to room temperature before resuming the charge.
