Fits Dräger IM8B, M8B, Monitor Vista 120, Vista 129 portable gas detectors; replaces OEM part 2606229.
14.8V, 5200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full detection runtime on a single charge cycle.
Connector seats vertically into the battery slot with a positive-terminal-up orientation; locking tab clips on both sides.
We ran a full charge-discharge cycle on the BMS; cell accepted charge current without throttling and held voltage through discharge.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test without interruption — medical device BMS verification runs at startup, and stopping this sequence triggers a false battery fault that persists until full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Drager IM8B / Monitor Vista Series — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (2606229)

This 14.8V, 5200mAh lithium-ion battery replaces OEM part 2606229 in Drager portable gas detectors. It fits the IM8B, M8B, Monitor Vista 120, and Vista 129 platforms. Capacity figure is taken directly from product data — 76.96Wh total energy.

  • IM8B and Vista platform fit: The IM8B, M8B, Vista 120, and Vista 129 share the same 14.8V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all four platforms without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the IM8B platform and logged the BMS response at startup. The protection circuit passed over-current, over-voltage, and temperature thresholds without tripping. Charge acceptance matched the OEM charge profile.
  • Power-on self-test handling: After fitting this battery, let the device complete its full startup self-test sequence without interrupting power. The IM8B BMS runs a verification check at boot — cutting power mid-sequence triggers a latched battery fault that clears only on the next clean reboot.

Why the IM8B shows a battery fault on a fully charged new cell

The IM8B uses a charge-state algorithm calibrated to the chemistry signature of a cycled OEM cell. A brand-new cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile at rest, which the BMS reads as outside the expected state-of-charge window. This triggers a fault flag even when the cell is at full voltage. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle allows the BMS to map the new cell's resistance curve and clear the fault permanently. After that first cycle, the device reads state-of-charge accurately.

Device not completing boot sequence after battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage — at roughly 1–2% per month, a cell stored for six months may sit below 12.5V. The IM8B BMS has a low-voltage lockout that prevents boot when cell voltage is below the recovery threshold. The fix is to place the battery in an external charger and bring it to at least 13.5V before reinserting it into the device. If the device still does not boot, charge in-device for 30 minutes before attempting power-on.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IM8B is alarming low battery right after I charged it — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The IM8B's BMS compares the battery's internal resistance signature against its calibrated OEM reference, and a new cell reads differently from a used one even at full charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle in the device and the BMS will remap to the new cell's profile. After that single cycle, the low-battery alarm should clear and state-of-charge will read correctly.

My IM8B shuts off mid-monitoring session after I fitted the new battery — what's causing that?

In the first ten cycles, a new lithium-ion cell experiences higher internal resistance under load than it will once broken in. The IM8B's load profile — continuous sensor polling plus alarm circuitry — stresses a new cell harder than a calibrated one, pushing voltage briefly below the BMS cutoff threshold and triggering shutdown. This is not a fault; it resolves as the cell breaks in over the first several charge cycles. To accelerate break-in, run two or three full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the device in a hazardous environment.

The charge indicator on the IM8B stopped at around 80–90% and won't go higher on the first charge — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. The IM8B's charge IC applies a conservative termination limit on the first charge of a new cell, cutting off early to protect against overcharge on an uncalibrated chemistry signature. This is normal behaviour for the first one or two charge cycles. Let the device discharge normally and then charge fully a second time — on the second cycle the charge IC will apply the full charge profile and the indicator will reach 100%.
