Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Elson EL550 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY26166)
This is a 3.7V, 550mAh Li-ion battery for the Elson EL550 mobile phone. It replaces OEM part BTY26166 when the original cell degrades or fails to hold charge through normal daily use. Dimensions are 39.40 × 38.90 × 4.36mm — confirm against your existing cell before fitting.
- EL550 platform fit: The EL550 uses a compact single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V nominal. The BTY26166 connector and PCB tab layout are specific to this form factor — not interchangeable with other Elson models in the same era without physical modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS held cutoff correctly at both ends, and charge termination triggered cleanly without voltage overshoot.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging if your charger supports it and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before drawing any high-current load against an uncalibrated baseline.
Why the EL550 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The EL550's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When you fit a new cell, that stored curve no longer matches the actual chemistry of the replacement. The phone reads estimated state-of-charge against the old model, so the percentage shown can be 15–25% off in either direction. One full discharge down to automatic shutoff, followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%, forces the coulomb counter to reset against the new cell's actual capacity.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
A 550mAh cell has limited headroom under combined modem, screen, and processor load. When the EL550 hits peak current draw — a call on a weak signal, for instance — the cell voltage sags sharply below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the reported percentage looks safe. The fuel gauge is reading average state-of-charge, not instantaneous voltage under load. If this happens consistently around 25–30%, run the recalibration cycle described above; the cutoff point typically stabilises once the coulomb counter is tracking the correct discharge curve. After calibration, repeated shutoffs at the same level point to a cell impedance issue — check resting voltage with a meter; it should read above 3.6V after a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
The EL550 powers on but shuts off the moment I make a call — why does this keep happening with the new battery?
This is a voltage sag failure, not a capacity problem. Under the combined load of the modem transmitting and the screen staying on, the cell's internal impedance causes voltage to drop sharply below the BMS cutoff threshold — even when the percentage reads 30% or higher. Run one full discharge-to-shutoff and uninterrupted charge-to-100% cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell. After calibration, check resting voltage with a meter — it should sit above 3.6V after a full charge.
Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after fitting this battery — is the cell faulty?
Not necessarily. On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC sometimes falls back to standard current while it verifies the new BMS handshake. Unplug, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect — most controllers renegotiate the protocol on reconnect. If fast charge still does not engage after two or three attempts, complete one full standard-rate charge cycle first; the protocol typically accepts on the second cycle once the cell is above 50% state-of-charge.
The phone was stored for a few months with the new battery inside and now it will not power on at all — what happened?
If the cell discharged below approximately 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage from charging a critically depleted cell. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC trickle-charges the cell at low current to bring it back above the BMS recovery threshold, which is typically around 3.0V, before normal charging resumes.
