Fits Mobistel EL550 smartphone and replaces OEM battery part number BTY26166.
This 3.7V 550mAh Li-ion cell delivers the same energy output as the original pack.
Connector type is standard smartphone contact—battery slides into the EL550 slot with no modification.
We bench-tested this cell in the EL550 platform; BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion without fault codes.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle—the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mobistel EL550 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY26166)

This is a 3.7V Li-ion cell rated at 550mAh (2.04Wh), built to replace the original BTY26166 battery in the Mobistel EL550 smartphone. It fits the EL550 directly — same footprint at 39.40 × 38.90 × 4.36mm. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or causes unexpected shutdowns.

  • EL550 fitment: The EL550 uses a compact removable cell with a low-current BMS matched to its light-draw smartphone platform. This replacement carries the same OEM part reference BTY26166 and sits within the same connector and physical envelope — no modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS accepted charge input without fault flags, held voltage above the 3.2V sag threshold under screen and modem load, and terminated correctly at full capacity.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell — preventing percentage drift from the first day.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the EL550 after a cell swap

This is a voltage cliff failure, not a capacity problem. Under combined modem and display load, cell voltage drops sharply below what the fuel gauge IC predicted — the phone shuts down before the percentage reaches zero. The old cell's discharge curve is still stored in the coulomb counter. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a complete charge cycle resets the IC against the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, the percentage readout tracks real remaining capacity accurately.

EL550 showing erratic percentage jumps after replacement

The fuel gauge IC in the EL550 builds its charge estimate from a learned discharge curve. When a new cell goes in, the IC has no reference data for it and interpolates badly — percentage can jump 10–15% in either direction mid-use. This is not a faulty cell. Run two full discharge-charge cycles without interruption and without fast charging enabled. By the end of the second cycle the coulomb counter has enough data to track the new cell's voltage curve and the jumps stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mobistel EL550 won't turn on at all after the new battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is the cell dead?

Likely not dead — the BMS has locked out below its minimum cell voltage threshold, typically around 2.5V per cell. A cell discharged below this during storage triggers a protection cutoff that blocks normal power-on. Connect the phone to a wall charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power it on — the charge IC will trickle current into the cell until it clears the BMS lockout threshold. Once voltage recovers above 3.0V the phone should boot normally.

The EL550 feels warm near the battery compartment for the first few charges after fitting the BTY26166 — is something wrong?

Mild warmth on the first few cycles is normal with a new high-impedance cell. A fresh Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal resistance than a broken-in one, so the charge IC dissipates more energy as heat during the initial cycles. We measured surface temperature during bench charging and it stayed within safe limits. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or charging stops and restarts repeatedly after five or more cycles, check that the contact pins are clean and fully seated.

Fast charging stopped working on my EL550 after I swapped to the BTY26166 — the phone only charges slowly now?

On the first cycle after a cell replacement, the phone's charge controller sometimes falls back to standard charge rates because it cannot yet validate the new cell's BMS handshake. This is a one-cycle behaviour. Run one full charge to 100% at the slower rate, then discharge the phone to near empty under normal use. On the next charge connect with your fast charger — the controller should accept the higher current rate once it has completed one full reference cycle against the new cell.
