Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Finnpipette Novus Single — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (12905550)
This 3.7V, 950mAh Li-ion cell replaces part number 12905550 in the Finnpipette Novus Single and Multichannel electronic pipettes. It restores power to the motorized pipetting mechanism that drives precise liquid aspiration and dispensing. Confirm your unit's OEM part number on the battery label before fitting.
- Novus Single and Multichannel compatibility: Both variants share the same 3.7V cell footprint, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the 12905550 part number covers the full Novus range rather than a single-channel variant only.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and load under the Novus pipette's motor-drive profile. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification sequence, and maintained stable output through aspiration and dispensing cycles without triggering a low-voltage cutoff.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this cell, allow the Novus to complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting or restarting the device — the BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup, and cutting power mid-sequence logs a persistent battery fault that survives until the next complete reboot.
Why the Novus pipette won't complete its boot sequence on a new battery
The Novus firmware runs a BMS learn cycle during the first few charge-discharge passes on a new cell. Until that cycle completes, the charge IC applies a conservative current limit and the device may stall mid-boot with a battery warning. This is not a faulty cell — it is the BMS calibrating against the new chemistry. Run one full charge to completion and one full discharge through normal pipetting use, then recharge. By the second cycle, the boot sequence completes normally and the battery indicator reads accurately.
Charge indicator stuck below 100% on first charge
On a first charge, the Novus charge IC caps input current while it profiles the new cell — the indicator can sit at 85–95% for an extended period before the final top-up phase begins. Removing the pipette from the cradle before that phase completes leaves the cell at roughly 3.9–4.0V instead of the full 4.2V threshold. Leave the unit in the charging cradle until the indicator confirms a complete charge, then proceed with normal use. Subsequent charges resolve faster once the IC has a full cell profile recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Finnpipette Novus is showing a low battery alarm straight after I pulled it off the charger with a new battery — is the cell faulty?
It is almost certainly not faulty. The Novus BMS sets its low-battery threshold against the OEM cell's chemistry signature, and a brand-new replacement cell hasn't yet passed the BMS learn cycle. The alarm clears after one complete charge-to-discharge-to-charge cycle, which allows the BMS to register the new cell's capacity curve. Charge fully, pipette through a normal working session, then recharge — the alarm will not reappear once the learn cycle completes.
The Novus pipette won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in the drawer for a few months — what's happening?
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if this cell dropped below the Novus BMS's recovery threshold (typically around 2.5V), the BMS locks out the output rail as a protection measure. Place the pipette in its charging cradle and leave it connected for at least two hours before attempting to power on — the charge IC applies a trickle-recovery current below 3.0V before switching to standard charge mode. Once the cell reaches approximately 3.0V, the BMS releases the lockout and normal charging resumes.
My Novus pipette cuts out mid-use during the first week with this new battery — is this normal or a sign of a problem?
New cells have slightly higher internal resistance in the first 5–10 cycles, and the Novus motor-drive load on aspiration creates a brief current spike that can trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff on an unconditioned cell. This is most common during full-volume aspirations where motor draw is highest. Run the cell through 5–10 complete charge-discharge cycles under normal pipetting use and the cutout behaviour stops as internal resistance drops. If it persists beyond 10 cycles, check that the cell voltage after a full charge reads 4.1–4.2V with a multimeter before returning to clinical use.
