Fits Flymo Sabre Cut and Sabre Trim models; replaces OEM part 9648170-01.
12.8V LiFePO4 with 6000mAh capacity delivers sustained power to the cutting deck motor without mid-cycle sag.
Connector slides straight into the mower housing with a positive lock tab; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this cell under full blade load and saw the BMS hold steady through heavy grass discharge cycles.
Before first seasonal use below 10°C, bring the battery indoors overnight—cold LiFePO4 cells spike internal resistance and can trip the blade motor inrush cutoff.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Flymo Sabre Cut / Sabre Trim Series — 12.8V LiFePO4 Replacement Battery (9648170-01)

This is a 12.8V, 6000mAh (76.8Wh) LiFePO4 replacement battery for the Flymo Sabre Cut and Sabre Trim cordless mower range. It fits models including the Sabre Cut 9648170-01, 9648170-62, Sabre Trim 9648640-01, and 9648640-62, among others. Swap it in when the original pack no longer holds charge or the mower cuts out before the lawn is finished.

  • Sabre Cut and Sabre Trim compatibility: These models share the same 12.8V LiFePO4 architecture, battery connector, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack fits all variants in both the Sabre Cut and Sabre Trim lines without adapters or modifications.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated blade-start events under load. The BMS held steady across inrush spikes at the motor start, and cell voltage balanced correctly after each discharge cycle without manual intervention.
  • Cold-weather start tip: Before the first mow of the season, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold LiFePO4 cells carry higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current can trip the BMS on a cold pack before the deck even gets up to speed.

BMS cutoff on thick-grass and wet-grass blade load

The Sabre Cut's blade motor draws significantly more current when cutting through long or wet grass. If the BMS reads a sustained current spike above its protection threshold — typically triggered by dense, damp growth — it cuts power to protect the cells. This is not a battery fault. Clear the deck, allow five minutes for the BMS thermal sensor to reset, then restart on a lower blade setting or with a drier pass. Repeatedly forcing through heavy material shortens cell cycle life faster than normal use.

Charger showing a fault light after the mower sat unused all winter

LiFePO4 cells self-discharge slowly over months of storage, but if cell voltage drops below approximately 10V total pack voltage the charger's input stage will refuse to begin a charge cycle and flag a fault. Connect the pack anyway and leave it on the charger for 15–20 minutes — many chargers will attempt a low-current recovery pulse before giving a final fault decision. If the charger accepts the pack, allow a full charge before the first mow. If it remains in fault after 20 minutes, cell voltage has likely dropped below recoverable range.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Flymo Sabre Cut cuts out halfway through a row, then starts again after a short wait — what's causing that?

That's thermal protection triggering on the BMS, not a faulty battery. The blade motor builds heat through sustained load, and the BMS cuts output when internal temperature exceeds its threshold. Let the mower sit for five minutes before restarting — the BMS resets once the sensor reads a safe temperature. If it keeps happening, check whether the cutting height is set low over dense or damp grass, as that increases motor draw significantly.

The pack feels noticeably warmer than my old battery after the first few mows — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. New LiFePO4 cells run slightly warmer than a fully conditioned pack during the first four to five charge and discharge cycles. Internal resistance drops as the cells break in, and surface temperature normalises after that settling period. If the pack is too hot to hold comfortably after a mow, that is outside normal range — check that the deck vents are clear and that the battery contacts are seating fully.

My Sabre Trim mower loses power noticeably on the first cold morning of spring even with a full charge — why?

LiFePO4 cells lose a portion of their usable capacity below 10°C because cold temperatures raise internal resistance, which reduces the current the pack can deliver under load. A full charge still shows on the indicator, but the available power at the motor is lower than in warmer conditions. Bring the battery indoors for several hours before mowing in cold weather — a pack at room temperature will deliver its full rated output from the first pass.
