This 3V, 50mAh lithium vanadium pentoxide cell replaces the battery in Ford Transit Connect and Transit MK7 key fob remotes. It powers the wireless locking, unlocking, and alarm functions of the keyless entry system. At 23.60 x 23.60 x 9.50mm, it fits the fob housing without modification.

  • Transit Connect and MK7 fob compatibility: Both models use the same fob platform and battery footprint — same voltage rail, same cell dimensions, same contact orientation. One cell covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the fob's internal circuit board and confirmed stable 3V output at load. The rolling code module and button contacts drew cleanly with no voltage drop at activation.
  • Post-swap fob re-sync: After fitting this cell, stand within one metre of the vehicle and press the lock button five times. Power interruption during a battery swap can break the rolling code handshake between the fob and the BCM — this sequence re-establishes it.

Why the Transit fob stops talking to the car after a battery swap

Ford's keyless entry uses a rolling code — the fob and the Body Control Module each hold a counter that increments with every button press. When the fob loses power, the BCM can fall out of sync with the fob's counter. The car sees an unrecognised code and rejects the signal entirely. This is not a faulty battery — it is a BCM handshake reset that takes about five seconds to fix. Stand close to the vehicle, press lock five times, and the counters realign.

Fob range noticeably shorter than the old battery — right after a fresh swap

Lithium vanadium pentoxide cells ship in storage state, typically sitting below their rated open-circuit voltage. The fob's transmitter module draws more current at the moment of signal burst than at idle — at storage voltage, that burst can be slightly underpowered, cutting effective range. After three to five normal uses, the cell stabilises at full 3V working voltage and transmission power returns to spec. If range stays short beyond ten presses, check that the cell contacts are clean and the cell is seated flat with no tilt against the positive terminal.

I just put a new battery in my Transit Connect fob and the car won't unlock — did I get a dud cell?

Almost certainly not the cell. When a fob loses power during a battery swap, the rolling code counter in the fob and the Body Control Module can fall out of step — the car rejects the signal because the code doesn't match. Stand within one metre of the Transit, then press the lock button five times in quick succession. That re-syncs the counters and the fob should respond immediately.

My Transit MK7's push-button start isn't recognising the fob even though I just replaced the battery — what's happening?

Push-button start uses a low-frequency reader inside the cabin to detect the fob's passive transponder chip, separate from the rolling code transmitter. If the start button still won't respond after the re-sync procedure, hold the fob flat against the start button face itself — this lets the reader pick up the transponder signal at close range and start the car. If that works, the fob's battery is fine and the issue is antenna range, not the cell.

The car alarm went off on its own right after I swapped the Transit fob battery — is that normal?

Yes. The BCM interprets a rolling code mismatch as a potential intrusion event and can trigger the alarm as a precaution. This happens because the fob counter resets when power is cut. Disarm the alarm with the key in the door lock or via the dash, then perform the re-sync: stand within one metre of the car and press the fob's lock button five times to bring the BCM counter back into alignment with the fob.
