Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

FREETEL Samurai Rei FTJ161B — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BP-RE1)
This is a 3.8V, 2700mAh lithium-polymer replacement battery for the FREETEL Samurai Rei smartphone. It fits model variants including FTJ161B, FTJ161B-REI, and FTJ161B-REI-BL. It replaces OEM part number BP-RE1 and restores power to phones that no longer hold a useful charge.
- Samurai Rei variant coverage: The FTJ161B, FTJ161B-REI, and FTJ161B-REI-BL all share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits the full variant range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Samurai Rei platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first connection, completed a full charge cycle without interruption, and thermal output stayed within normal range throughout.
- First-cycle calibration on the Samurai Rei: After installing this cell, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. The fuel gauge IC in the FTJ161B calibrates its coulomb counter against the cell's actual discharge curve — skipping this step causes the percentage indicator to read inaccurately for weeks.
Why the Samurai Rei reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The FTJ161B uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks charge state by counting coulombs against a stored discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual cell chemistry. The IC keeps using the old reference, so the percentage on screen drifts from reality. One full slow-charge cycle — from 0% to 100% without fast charging — forces the IC to re-map the curve against the new cell and restore accurate readings.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under load — typically when the modem fires at full power during a call or the screen ramps brightness. A lithium-polymer cell below 3.5V per cell cannot sustain voltage under that current draw, and the BMS cuts output to protect the cell. The phone reads 25% on the gauge but the cell is already at its load-collapse threshold. Run that first full calibration cycle and confirm the phone shuts down at or below 3.4V under load — if cutoffs still happen above 3.6V, the BMS needs a full re-initialisation by discharging to automatic shutdown, then charging uninterrupted to 100%.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Samurai Rei won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for months — is the battery dead?
The BP-RE1 cell likely dropped below 2.5V during storage, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent cell damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 45 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC needs to trickle current into the cell before the BMS will allow the phone to boot. If the charge LED does not appear within an hour, the cell has self-discharged past recovery and needs physical replacement.
Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after fitting this battery — what's wrong?
On the first connection after a cell swap, the Samurai Rei's charge controller sometimes rejects the USB fast-charge handshake because the BMS is still initialising against the new cell's impedance profile. Unplug the charger, power the phone off completely, then reconnect. If fast charging still does not engage, complete one full standard-rate charge cycle first — the charge IC typically accepts the fast-charge protocol normally from the second cycle onward once it has a baseline impedance reading from the new cell.
The battery percentage jumps around erratically — drops 10% in seconds, then jumps back up — is this a faulty cell?
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating after the cell swap, not a defective cell. The coulomb counter is still referencing the old cell's discharge curve and cannot accurately map the new cell's voltage-to-capacity relationship. Discharge the phone fully until it shuts itself off, then charge to 100% in one uninterrupted session at standard rate. After that single cycle the IC rewrites its reference curve and the percentage readings stabilise.
