This is a 3.85V, 4900mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G (SM-A426, SM-A426B). It replaces OEM part numbers EB-BA426ABY, GH82-24377A, and GH82-25461A. Use it when the original cell has degraded, swells, or can no longer hold a usable charge.

  • SM-A426 series compatibility: The Galaxy A42 5G lineup shares a single battery bay spec across SM-A426 and SM-A426B variants — same 3.85V rail, same flex connector pinout, same BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers all listed variants without hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on an SM-A426B unit. The BMS accepted the handshake without fault flags, the fuel gauge IC began tracking, and charge current stepped correctly through trickle, bulk, and termination phases.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle at standard current. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current fast charging pushes current into an uncalibrated counter.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Galaxy A42 5G after a cell swap

The SM-A426 runs a 5G modem and a large AMOLED panel simultaneously — both pull hard current spikes. If the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, it misjudges remaining capacity. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under load before the OS expects it, and the phone shuts down to protect the cell. One complete discharge cycle without fast charging lets the coulomb counter relearn the actual capacity endpoint of the new cell. After that cycle, shutdowns at 20–30% typically stop.

USB-PD fast charge not accepted on the first cycle after replacement

Some SM-A426 units reject fast charge negotiation on the first connection after a cell swap — the charge IC sees an uncalibrated BMS state and defaults to standard 5V/1A input as a precaution. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Fully charge the device once at standard rate, then reboot before reconnecting a fast charger. After the first full cycle, the charge IC re-negotiates and fast charging resumes at its normal voltage step.

Run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% at standard rate with fast charging disabled. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter resets to the new cell's actual capacity and the early shutdowns stop.

The phone won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in the drawer for a few months before I installed it — what's wrong?

The cell has likely dropped below the BMS lockout threshold, which on Li-Polymer cells typically triggers below 2.5V per cell. The BMS cuts output entirely to prevent damage, so the phone shows nothing — no boot, no charge indicator. Connect the phone to a wall adapter (not a PC port) and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage clears the BMS lockout threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

Battery percentage on my A42 5G is jumping around erratically — going from 60% to 45% in seconds then back up — what's causing that?

This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar cell. The SM-A426 uses a coulomb counter that builds its model from charge and discharge history — on a new cell with no history, percentage readings are unreliable until the model is populated. Run two full discharge-charge cycles at standard current with fast charging off. By the end of the second cycle, the IC has enough data to report stable percentages. If jumping continues past two full cycles, check that the battery flex connector is fully seated at both ends.
