Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE 49001 / GES-PCM02 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 6V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the GE 49001 and GES-PCM02 cordless phone handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores wireless operation from the base station. Voltage and cell count match the original pack exactly.
- 49001 and GES-PCM02 compatibility: Both models run the same 6V battery rail with identical connector pinout and physical footprint. The base station charger circuit targets this voltage range, so swapping packs between these two handsets works without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a GE 49001 handset. The BMS accepted charge immediately from the base cradle, and voltage held steady across the RF transmit bursts without dropping below the handset's low-battery threshold.
- First charge on NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. NiMH cells ship partially discharged. A slow, full first charge lets each cell reach rated capacity — skipping this step can leave 20–30% of capacity permanently inaccessible.
Why talk time stays short for the first few uses after a new NiMH swap
NiMH cells don't hit rated capacity on the first cycle. The 1500mAh figure requires 3–5 full charge and discharge cycles to develop fully. On cycle one, effective capacity can sit at 60–70% of rated. Each subsequent full cycle builds the capacity up further. Run the handset until the low-battery alert triggers, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — talk time will increase noticeably by cycle three.
Base station charge light not activating after fitting the new pack
NiMH batteries stored for several months can drop below 4.5V, which sits outside the acceptance window for some GE base charger circuits. The charger reads the pack as faulty rather than deeply discharged and refuses to initiate the charge cycle. To recover, briefly connect the battery to a standalone NiMH charger set to 6V until voltage climbs above 5.0V, then return the handset to the base. Once the base sees a voltage in its acceptance range, the charge light activates and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My GE 49001 handset lost its pairing to the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix that?
Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, which wipes the pairing registration on some DECT phones including the GE 49001. The fix is a manual re-registration: press and hold the Find/Page button on the base station for 4–6 seconds until the base enters pairing mode, then follow the handset on-screen prompts to re-register. Pairing is stored in non-volatile memory once completed and survives future battery swaps.
The handset shows a full charge but the range drops off badly — calls cut out if I move more than a few metres from the base.
Range drops when the handset's RF transmit power sags under load. On NiMH packs, this usually means the cells haven't been fully conditioned yet and voltage is dipping under RF burst draw even though the charge indicator reads full. Run 3–5 complete charge and discharge cycles to bring the pack to rated 1500mAh capacity. If range is still short after conditioning, check that the battery terminals inside the handset compartment are clean and making firm contact — corroded contacts add resistance that amplifies voltage sag during transmit.
The handset is fully seated in the base but the battery is nearly flat every morning — why is it draining overnight?
A flat battery in a seated handset usually means the handset isn't making contact with the base charge pins, not that the battery has a fault. Lift the handset out and look at the charge contacts on the bottom — oxidation or debris on either the handset or base pins breaks the charging circuit. Clean both sets of contacts with a dry cotton swab, reseat the handset firmly, and confirm the charge indicator light activates on the base. If the light comes on and the handset still drains, check the base power adapter is delivering the correct 9V DC output.
