Fits GE B20, B30, B40 Healthcare ultrasound systems; replaces OEM part 2017857-002 and cross-reference equivalents.
11.1V, 5200mAh Li-ion delivers full diagnostic imaging runtime without mid-procedure power loss during patient exams.
Connector seats into the B-series battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab engages on insertion.
Bench testing showed BMS voltage regulation stable at 11.1V nominal; no early cutoff observed under clinical load profile.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test without interruption — medical devices verify BMS compatibility at startup, and interrupting this cycle causes a false battery fault that requires a full reboot to clear.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE B20 Healthcare — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (2017857-002)

This is an 11.1V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 5200mAh (57.72Wh) for the GE B20 Healthcare portable ultrasound system. It also fits the B30, B40, and Dash 3000 platforms sharing the same OEM part number family. Voltage and connector match the original specification from the 2017857-002 reference.

  • B20, B30, B40, and Dash 3000 platform fit: These units share a common battery bay geometry, voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol — the same 11.1V cell pack services all of them without modification to the charge circuit or connector orientation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and load cycles on a compatible unit. The BMS completed handshake, the charge IC accepted the cell without rejection flags, and the protection circuit responded correctly to load cutoff thresholds.
  • First-cycle self-test requirement: After installation, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The B20's BMS runs a battery verification sequence at startup — cutting power mid-sequence writes a false fault to the battery register that persists until the next clean reboot.

Why the B20 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The B20's charge IC uses OEM cell chemistry parameters to set its alarm thresholds. A new replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile in its first cycles, which the BMS reads as a lower state-of-charge than the actual capacity reflects. This triggers a low-battery alarm even when the cell is fully charged. One complete charge-discharge cycle recalibrates the fuel gauge register and clears the condition.

Device not completing boot sequence after the battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage drops below approximately 9V — the B20's BMS recovery threshold — the protection circuit locks the output rail and the unit will not boot. The fix is to connect the battery to the OEM charger and allow a trickle pre-charge cycle to bring the cell above 10V before attempting to power on the device. Do not attempt to force a boot before the charger confirms acceptance of the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

The B20 is showing a low battery alarm immediately after I charged the replacement — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The B20's BMS compares internal resistance against stored OEM chemistry parameters, and a new cell reads outside that window in its first few cycles, triggering a false low-battery flag. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the unit before drawing any conclusions. The fuel gauge register recalibrates after that cycle and the alarm clears.

The B20 powered on with the new battery but shut off unexpectedly mid-examination — what caused that?

New Li-ion cells carry higher internal resistance in their first ten cycles, which causes voltage sag under the ultrasound's imaging load. The B20's under-voltage protection circuit interprets that sag as a depleted cell and triggers a cutoff. Charge the battery fully and complete several charge-discharge cycles before clinical use — cell resistance drops as the electrodes condition, and the sag narrows to within the BMS tolerance.

The charge indicator on the B20 stopped climbing at around 85% and hasn't moved — is the charger rejecting the cell?

The charge IC applies a conservative current limit on an unfamiliar cell, which extends the absorption phase significantly on the first charge. This is normal behaviour — the indicator will resume climbing once the IC confirms stable cell acceptance, typically within 30–60 minutes at that stage. Leave the unit on charge uninterrupted until the indicator reaches 100%. If it stalls permanently below 90% across multiple charge attempts, check that the cell voltage reads above 10.5V with a multimeter before suspecting a fault.
