Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE Fanuc 90-20 / 90-30 Series — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (A02B-0118-K111)
This is a 3V, 1800mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell for GE Fanuc 90-20 and 90-30 PLC systems. It powers the real-time clock and backs up SRAM program memory when mains power is removed. Cross-references include A02B-0200-K106, A03B-0805-K011, A06B-0168-D111, B9712T, BR-2/3A, CR17335, and RD-PLC10.
- 90-20 and 90-30 platform fit: Both series share the same battery bay geometry, connector, and 3V SRAM retention rail. The BMS threshold on these controllers sits at 2.8V — below that, the controller logs a low-battery fault and begins the shutdown sequence for volatile memory.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the OEM voltage profile on the 90-30 CPU module. Open-circuit voltage came in at 3.0V. Under the low-current SRAM hold load, the BMS handshake cleared without fault codes.
- Hot-swap procedure — do not power down first: Always swap this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. The SRAM holding the ladder logic program is volatile — cut power while the battery is out and the program is gone. A cold swap means a full reload from the programming device.
Why the 90-20 loses program memory after a battery swap
The 90-20 stores its ladder logic in SRAM, not flash. SRAM needs continuous voltage to hold data — the moment that voltage drops, the contents are gone. If the battery is removed while the PLC is off, there is no backup rail keeping the SRAM alive, and the memory clears instantly. Powering the controller back on after a cold swap will bring it to a fault state with no executable program. The fix is a full program reload from the original project file on the programming device.
Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation
On GE Fanuc 90-series controllers, the low-battery alarm flag is latched in the CPU — it does not self-clear when a fresh cell is installed. The fault must be manually acknowledged and reset through the programming software after the new battery is seated. If the alarm persists beyond that step, check that the cell is making firm contact in the battery bay and confirm open-circuit voltage reads at or above 3.0V. Reset the fault flag in the software and cycle the diagnostic screen to confirm the alarm has cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PLC was off when we pulled the old battery — now it won't run and the program is gone. Is there a way to recover it from the controller?
No. SRAM on the 90-20 and 90-30 is volatile — removing the battery while the controller is unpowered erases the contents immediately, with no internal recovery path. The program cannot be read back from the CPU. You need the original project file from the programming device or a backup copy stored offline. Reload via the programming software with the PLC powered on, then confirm the program is executing before fitting the new battery.
New battery is installed and the voltage reads fine, but the clock is showing the wrong date and time after we powered back up. Why?
The real-time clock lost sync during the swap if the PLC was powered off at any point while the battery was out. The new cell restores the clock circuit, but it has no memory of the previous time value — it resets to a default. Set the correct date and time manually through the GE Fanuc programming software under the controller's clock configuration menu. If the swap was done hot with the PLC in RUN mode, the clock should have held — check whether power was interrupted during the procedure.
Our site runs the PLC in a warm enclosure. We replaced this battery 18 months ago and it's already showing low — shouldn't it last longer?
Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C. A cabinet running at 45°C can cut expected service life by more than half. The 1800mAh capacity of this cell is spec'd at room temperature — in a warm enclosure, plan for 12–18 month replacement cycles instead of 3–5 years. Add a small ventilation gap or check that the enclosure fan is clearing heat away from the battery bay, and confirm ambient temperature at the battery compartment with a contact thermometer.
