Fits Gigabyte W451U, W551A, and W551U notebooks; replaces OEM battery 11.1V pack.
11.1V, 4400mAh (48.84Wh) lithium-ion cell matches original output for sustained CPU and display load.
Connector slides onto motherboard contact pins with locking tab seated flush against the chassis slot.
Bench test showed normal charge curve to 12.6V peak with BMS cutoff stable; no volt droop under load.
On first installation, run one full discharge to system shutdown then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears false health warnings that appear after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gigabyte W451U / W551 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is an 11.1V, 4400mAh (48.84Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Gigabyte W451U, W551A, and W551U notebooks. It slots into the same bay as the original and connects to the same charging circuit. Voltage and capacity match the factory spec exactly.

  • W451U, W551A, W551U compatibility: All three models share the same 11.1V three-cell battery architecture and use an identical connector and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between these models works because the charge management IC expects the same voltage rail across the whole series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge-discharge cycle on a W551U. The BMS accepted the pack without error, the fuel gauge IC initialised correctly, and the charge circuit ramped to 100% without triggering a fault cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration on the W451U and W551 series: After fitting this battery, let the laptop discharge fully until it hibernates on its own, then charge in one uninterrupted session to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle on these Gigabyte models and prevents the false "poor health" warning that appears after any cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell

The Gigabyte W451U and W551 series store battery health data in the BIOS separately from the cell itself. When a new cell goes in, that stored data still reflects the old degraded pack. The BIOS reads the EEPROM values, compares them against current charge behaviour, and flags a mismatch as poor health. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the BIOS to rewrite that data against the new cell's actual performance.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's voltage curve. The IC is still mapping percentage readouts to the old cell's discharge profile, so it misreads the voltage cliff. Under full CPU and display load, actual cell voltage drops faster than the gauge expects, and the laptop cuts power before the displayed percentage hits zero. Run two full discharge-calibration cycles — discharge to hibernate-cutoff each time, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — and the gauge IC remaps the curve to the new cell. After the second cycle, the shutdown-at-20% behaviour stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Gigabyte W551U shows the battery as "0%" or "unknown" right after I fitted the new cell — is the battery dead?

The battery is not dead. The W551U reads battery identity from EEPROM data written during the charge cycle — a brand-new cell hasn't gone through that process yet, so the OS reports it as unknown or 0%. Plug in the AC adapter and let it charge completely without interrupting the session. Once the first full charge completes, the fuel gauge IC writes calibration data and the OS displays the correct percentage.

The Gigabyte W451U shows 48Wh in system info but the battery properties screen displays a lower "designed capacity" — why don't they match?

The Wh figure in system info pulls from the EEPROM on the old battery's last recorded state, not from the new cell. The new cell's actual rated capacity is 48.84Wh, which is what this replacement delivers. After one full discharge-to-hibernate and a complete recharge, the BIOS rewrites the stored capacity value against the new cell and both figures align.

The W551A stopped charging above 80% after I swapped the battery — is the new cell faulty?

This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. Many Gigabyte notebooks ship with a battery conservation mode enabled in the firmware that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. Check the Gigabyte Control Center application or the BIOS power settings for a "Battery Life Cycle" or charge limit toggle. Disabling that setting allows the cell to charge to 100%.
