Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Grothe FA64 / FA64-AKKU72 — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (39181)
This is a 9.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Grothe FA64 and FA64-AKKU72 wireless alarm system. It fits the transmitters, keypads, and control panel backup positions that use OEM part number 39181. Dimensions are 113.20 x 50.70 x 14.50mm — confirm these against your housing before ordering.
- FA64 and FA64-AKKU72 compatibility: Both models share the same 9.6V Ni-MH cell format and connector pinout. The panel BMS on each reads the same voltage thresholds, so one cell covers both variants without firmware or wiring changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the FA64 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and float charge stabilised within the expected window after initial conditioning.
- Post-installation hold period: Do not run a zone or siren test immediately after fitting this cell. Allow 24 to 48 hours on float charge first. Running a diagnostic before the cell reaches full charge can cause the panel to log a low-battery fault that persists until the next full cycle completes.
Alarm panel showing low battery hours after installing the new cell
Ni-MH cells do not arrive at full charge. The FA64 panel reads battery voltage continuously, and a freshly installed cell sitting below the panel's acceptance threshold will trigger a low-battery event almost immediately. This is not a fault with the cell — it is the panel correctly reporting that the cell has not yet reached float. Keep mains power connected and leave the system armed or in standby for 24 to 48 hours. Once the cell reaches approximately 10.5V under float, the panel clears the fault automatically.
Alarm losing saved programming after a mains power outage with new battery fitted
The FA64 panel draws on the backup battery to hold zone programming and system configuration during a mains failure. A new cell that has not completed its conditioning cycle may not deliver enough sustained current to keep the panel memory alive through a longer outage. The panel then reverts to factory defaults when mains is restored, which looks like a programming wipe. Fit the cell, restore mains power, and allow a full 48-hour conditioning period before relying on it for backup — do not test by cutting mains until that window has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions
The FA64 panel is showing a tamper fault straight after I swapped the battery — what causes that?
A tamper fault on the FA64 after a battery swap almost always means the panel or sensor housing lid has not clicked fully back into place. The tamper switch sits against the cover, and even slight misalignment breaks the contact. Open the housing, reseat the cover firmly, and listen for the click. If the fault clears within 30 seconds, the cover was the cause — no further action needed.
The siren did not sound during my test cycle after fitting the new cell — is the battery the problem?
On the FA64, the siren circuit waits for the backup battery to stabilise before it will trigger on a test event. If the cell has been in for less than an hour, the panel may suppress the siren output until the voltage sits above the minimum activation threshold. Wait until the cell has been on float charge for at least 24 hours, then repeat the test. If the siren still does not sound after that window, check the siren tamper loop and zone wiring before suspecting the cell.
The replacement cell measures 9.6V on a multimeter but the panel still flags low battery — why?
A resting open-circuit voltage of 9.6V on a Ni-MH pack does not reflect the cell's true state of charge. The FA64 panel tests the battery under a small load, and a cell that reads 9.6V at rest can drop below the panel's threshold — typically around 8.5V loaded — if it has not been through a full charge cycle. Connect mains power, leave the panel in normal operation for 48 hours, and the panel will clear the flag once the loaded voltage holds above that threshold.
