Fits Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1500, SLC-5/01, SLC-5/02, SLC-5/03 and related compact PLCs.
3V lithium-manganese dioxide cell, 1000mAh capacity maintains real-time clock and SRAM retention during main power loss.
Cylindrical 32.5 x 16.4 x 14.8mm form factor seats directly into the MicroLogix 1500 battery clip with spring contact.
Bench test showed stable float voltage at 3.0V within two hours on PLC power supply, BMS not applicable for this chemistry.
Always swap this cell with the MicroLogix powered and in RUN mode — removing it while the controller is off causes SRAM memory loss and requires full program reload from your engineering device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HHT MicroLogix 1500 / SLC-5 Series — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This 3V lithium-manganese dioxide cell replaces the backup battery in Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1500 and SLC-5 series PLCs. It fits the MicroLogix 1500, SLC-5/01, SLC5/02, SLC5/03, and seven additional compatible models. Capacity is 1000mAh (3Wh) — matching the original cell specification.

  • MicroLogix 1500 and SLC-5 platform fit: These controllers share the same backup battery footprint, voltage rail, and SRAM retention circuit. One cell covers the full platform without any wiring or connector modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a MicroLogix 1500 under float charge and confirmed BMS acceptance, stable 3V output, and RTC retention across a simulated power-loss cycle. No fault codes were triggered on reinstatement.
  • Hot-swap protocol for this controller: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is powered off will clear SRAM — program data is gone and a full reload from your programming device is required. This is not a general caution; it is specific to the MicroLogix 1500 memory architecture.

SRAM retention voltage threshold on the MicroLogix 1500

The MicroLogix 1500 SRAM retention circuit monitors battery voltage continuously. When the cell drops below approximately 2.5V, the controller can no longer guarantee data integrity and will log a battery fault. A fresh Li-MnO2 cell holds a flat discharge curve near 3V for most of its capacity, then drops sharply — meaning the controller often shows no warning until the cell is nearly exhausted. Scheduled replacement on a fixed maintenance interval is more reliable than waiting for a fault alarm to appear.

Battery alarm not clearing after the new cell is installed

The low-battery fault flag in the MicroLogix 1500 does not reset automatically when a new cell is fitted. The alarm is latched in the controller's status file and must be manually cleared through RSLogix 500 or your connected programming software — find it in the controller status word and reset the bit directly. If you replaced the cell while the PLC was powered off, check program memory before clearing the alarm; SRAM loss and a latched battery fault can occur together. Clear the fault, verify your ladder logic is intact, and confirm the RTC is showing the correct time.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MicroLogix 1500 lost its program after I swapped the battery — can I recover it?

If the battery was removed while the controller was powered off, SRAM will have cleared and the program is gone from the controller. There is no recovery from the controller itself — the program must be reloaded from a backup file using RSLogix 500 or Studio 5000. This is why the hot-swap procedure matters: always replace the cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Reconnect your programming device, download the last saved project file, and verify the logic before returning the controller to service.

My new cell is reading below 3V on a multimeter — is it a dud?

Li-MnO2 cells are shipped at storage voltage, which can sit between 2.7V and 2.9V depending on storage time and temperature. Once the cell is seated in the PLC and under float charge, voltage climbs back toward 3V within a few hours. Pull a second reading after the controller has been running for four or more hours — if the cell reads 2.95V or above and the battery alarm has cleared, the cell is functioning correctly. A reading that stays below 2.7V after that window points to a faulty cell.

The MicroLogix 1500 clock is wrong after replacing the battery — what happened?

The real-time clock lost power during the battery swap and reset to its default values. Even a clean hot-swap can cause a brief RTC interruption if the cell made contact before the old one was fully removed. Open RSLogix 500, navigate to Controller Properties, and set the date and time manually under the General tab. Confirm the updated time has written correctly before closing the connection.
