Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell Dolphin 99EX / 99GX — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (99EX-BTEC-1)
This 3.7V, 2400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Honeywell 99EXhc, 99GX, Dolphin 99EX, and Dolphin 99EX-BTEC handheld barcode scanners. These are mobile data collection devices used in retail, logistics, and warehouse pick-and-pack operations. It matches the OEM voltage, capacity, and connector to keep the scanner running through extended shifts without reconfiguration.
- 99EX and 99GX platform fit: The 99EXhc, 99GX, and Dolphin 99EX variants share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V voltage rail, and dock-charging contact layout. One pack covers all four models without adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a 99EX unit. The BMS responded correctly to the cradle charge signal, balanced cells during charge, and tripped cutoff cleanly at minimum cell voltage without false shutdowns.
- First-shift charging protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before triggering any scans. The scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — starting a shift on a partially charged new pack can trip the BMS before the cell has been conditioned.
Cradle showing charging error on a new pack
The Dolphin 99EX cradle reads battery state through the dock contacts on the base of the pack. If those contacts have oxidation, skin oils, or residue from packaging, the dock sees elevated resistance and flags a charging fault — even though the pack itself is fine. The cradle firmware interprets high contact resistance as a damaged or incompatible cell. Wipe the gold contacts on the battery and the dock with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the charge indicator should clear within 30 seconds.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During a high-frequency scan burst, the 99EX draws simultaneously from the imager, the processor, and the wireless radio. This combined inrush can cause a momentary voltage sag on a cell that is already below 3.5V. The BMS reads that sag as an under-voltage event and throttles output, which drops the radio link before the scanner shuts down entirely. Keep the battery above the halfway charge mark during high-volume picking sessions — if dropouts occur consistently, charge the pack before starting the next batch rather than running it to cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the 99EX stop reading barcodes right after I swap in the new battery?
A new pack ships at a partial state of charge — typically around 3.5V — and the imager draws a sharp inrush current the moment the scan trigger is pressed. If the cell voltage sags below the imager's minimum operating threshold on that first trigger pull, the scanner cuts power to the imager before you see a read. Seat the scanner in its cradle immediately after installing the pack and charge it fully before the first scan. The imager will operate consistently once the cell is above 3.7V resting voltage.
The scanner runs much shorter shifts than the old battery did — is something wrong with the new pack?
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval both draw from the same cell simultaneously, and the 99EX housing traps heat during sustained use, which adds to capacity fade over a shift. A new pack at 2400mAh should outlast a degraded OEM cell, but if endurance is still short, check whether the wireless polling rate or scan sensitivity settings were changed — both increase draw significantly. We tested this pack at rated capacity on the bench with no anomalies. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the cradle before drawing conclusions on shift endurance.
The scanner housing gets noticeably warm after a few hours — is the battery overheating?
The 99EX combines sustained wireless radio activity with continuous scan trigger use inside an enclosed plastic housing that has limited airflow, so surface warmth after a long shift is a normal operating condition for this device class. The BMS in this pack monitors cell temperature and will trip a thermal cutoff if internal temperature exceeds safe limits, protecting the cell before damage occurs. If the scanner becomes too hot to hold comfortably or shuts down mid-shift rather than just feeling warm, move it to a cooler environment and let it rest for five minutes before reseating it in the cradle — check that the cell voltage reads above 3.6V before resuming use.
