Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

HP 2133 Mini-Note — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (482262-001)
This is a 10.8V, 2600mAh (28.08Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the HP 2133 Mini-Note subnotebook. It fits the 2133 series including KX868AT, KR939UT variants, and associated SKUs listed under OEM part numbers 482262-001, KU528AA, HSTNN-DB63, HSTNN-IB63, and HSTNN-IB64. It restores battery operation to units where the original cell has degraded or failed entirely.
- 2133 Mini-Note platform fitment: All 2133 Mini-Note variants share the same 10.8V three-cell battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The OEM part numbers KU528AA and HSTNN-IB63/IB64 are interchangeable across this platform — the EEPROM signature is identical across units.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a 2133 Mini-Note unit. The BMS handshake completed correctly, charge current stepped down as expected near full capacity, and the protection circuit tripped at the correct low-voltage threshold without requiring a manual reset.
- Post-install calibration on the 2133 Mini-Note: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The 2133's BIOS battery learn cycle resets on this sequence. Skipping it leaves the fuel gauge IC working against stale EEPROM data from the old cell, which causes inaccurate state-of-charge readings for the first several sessions.
Why the 2133 Mini-Note BIOS reports poor battery health after a cell swap
The HP 2133 stores battery health data in EEPROM on the battery's embedded controller — not in the BIOS itself. When a new cell is installed, the BIOS reads residual health metrics written by the old cell and flags them as degraded. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running a full discharge-to-hibernate then an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the fuel gauge IC to rewrite the EEPROM baseline against the new cell's actual chemistry. After one or two complete cycles, the health warning clears and the reported capacity aligns with the 28.08Wh rating.
HP 2133 Mini-Note shutting down at 20–30% charge shown
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the minimum threshold under combined CPU and display load before the OS fuel gauge reaches zero. The fuel gauge IC is calibrated against a different discharge curve than the new cell delivers, so it reads 20–30% remaining while the actual cell voltage is already at cutoff. It is not a faulty cell — it is a calibration mismatch. Run a full discharge to hibernate and a full uninterrupted charge twice; after those cycles the fuel gauge re-maps to the new cell's voltage curve and the early shutdowns stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
The HP 2133 BIOS is showing the battery Wh rating as wrong — it says something different from what's printed on the cell. Is the battery defective?
No — the Wh figure the BIOS displays is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery controller, which stores the rated capacity of the original cell that was registered to that unit. A new cell with the same chemistry but a fresh EEPROM will sometimes report a different figure until the learn cycle overwrites the baseline. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that cycle, the EEPROM updates and the BIOS Wh reading aligns with the cell's actual 28.08Wh rating.
The HP 2133 fuel gauge is jumping around — showing 60%, then 80%, then back to 45% within minutes of unplugging. What's causing that?
The fuel gauge IC on the 2133 Mini-Note uses a stored discharge curve to estimate state-of-charge. When a new cell is installed, the IC has no reference data for that cell's voltage-to-capacity curve and interpolates erratically between the old cell's data points. This is normal for the first two to three cycles after a cell swap. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interrupting either phase, and the gauge IC will lock onto the new cell's curve — readings stabilise around 10.8V at full charge.
The new battery installed in the 2133 Mini-Note won't charge above 80%. The charging light goes off as if it's full, but the OS shows 80%.
The HP 2133 BIOS includes a charge limit setting that caps charging at 80% when battery care mode or a similar firmware flag is active — this is a BIOS-controlled threshold, not a fault in the replacement cell. Go into the BIOS setup (F10 at POST), navigate to the Power menu, and check for a battery charge limit or battery care option — disable it or set it to 100%. If no such option appears, check HP Support Assistant on the OS side for a matching software-level charge limit and turn it off
