Fits HP iPAQ rx5000, rx5700, rx5710, rx5720 and replaces OEM part FA8277A.
This 3.7V 1700mAh cell delivers the same energy density as the original, sustaining typical PDA operations through a full workday.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab — orientation is keyed, no force required.
We bench tested the BMS on a fully discharged rx5000; the pack accepted charge within spec and held voltage under standby draw.
Perform a full data sync to the host computer before removing the old battery — the iPAQ stores open files and application state in RAM powered by this cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP iPAQ rx5000 / rx5700 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FA8277A)

This 3.7V, 1700mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the HP iPAQ rx5000, rx5700, rx5710, and rx5720 Pocket PC handhelds. It matches the OEM form factor at 62.60 × 55.60 × 5.73mm and connects directly to the device's existing battery contacts. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec: 3.7V, 1700mAh (6.29Wh).

  • rx5000 and rx5700 platform fit: The rx5000, rx5710, and rx5720 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single cell covers the full series. The device's power management IC checks cell voltage and thermistor response on boot; this battery passes that check.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on an rx5700 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, voltage held steady through the charge curve, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff rather than letting the cell drop below safe threshold.
  • RAM data sync before swap: The iPAQ rx5000 series stores open files, application state, and unsaved contacts in volatile SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Sync all data to your host PC via ActiveSync before removing the old cell. A full power loss — even brief — clears everything in RAM that has not been written to flash storage.

Why the iPAQ rx5000 won't boot after a battery swap

The rx5000's boot ROM checks for a minimum cell voltage before it will attempt to load the OS. A new battery shipped in storage state — typically around 3.0V to 3.2V — can fall below that threshold. The device either shows a blank screen or briefly flashes the HP logo before shutting off. Connect the charger and leave the unit on charge for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button. Once the cell reaches roughly 3.5V, the boot sequence completes normally.

Battery life noticeably shorter when using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on the rx5700

The rx5700 and rx5720 include an integrated wireless radio that pulls significantly more current than the CPU alone — the radio draw can be four to five times higher than standby. This voltage sag under wireless load makes the battery appear to deplete faster than the rated capacity suggests. If the device dims or resets during active wireless use, check that the cell is at full charge before starting a sync session. A resting voltage of 4.1V to 4.2V at the battery terminals confirms a full charge state and gives the radio its full current headroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

My iPAQ rx5000 lost all my contacts and calendar entries after I swapped the battery — why?

The rx5000 keeps contacts, calendar data, and open application state in SRAM, which is volatile memory powered by the main battery. The moment the old cell is removed and the new one is not yet connected, that RAM loses power and everything in it is wiped. The internal backup capacitor on this platform holds charge for only a few seconds — not long enough for a manual swap. Before your next battery change, sync fully to a PC via ActiveSync so all data is written to persistent storage, then swap the cell.

The rx5710 screen comes on for a second then shuts off — new battery installed but won't stay on.

This is a low-voltage boot cutoff. The rx5710's firmware checks cell voltage before loading the OS, and a battery shipped in storage state can read below the minimum threshold the device will accept. Connect the AC charger and leave the unit plugged in for 30 to 45 minutes without pressing any buttons. Once the cell climbs above approximately 3.5V, the device will boot and hold power normally.

Wireless sync on my rx5720 keeps dropping partway through — started after fitting a new battery.

The rx5720's Wi-Fi radio draws a sharp current spike when transmitting, and if the battery is not at full charge, voltage sags enough during that spike for the radio to lose its connection. This is not a radio fault — it's a voltage headroom issue. Charge the new battery fully before attempting a wireless sync session. Confirm full charge by checking that the device's battery indicator reads 100% and the charging LED has gone solid before you start ActiveSync.
