Fits Icom F1000, F1000D, F1000S, F1000T and replaces BP-279, BP-280, BP-280LI battery packs.
7.4V lithium-ion cell rated 1500mAh delivers sustained transmit power without sag during extended field shifts.
Gold contact strip slides into Icom radio slot vertically; locking tab seats flush when pack clicks home.
We bench-tested this cell on an F1000 transmission cycle—BMS accepted handshake immediately, zero fault LED on dock insertion.
If the charger dock shows a fault light after first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—Icom platforms need a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Icom F1000 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-279 / BP-280)

This is a 7.4V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery for the Icom F1000, F1000D, F1000S, F1000T, and 22 additional F-series variants. It replaces OEM part numbers BP-279, BP-280, and BP-280LI. Voltage and connector footprint match the original pack exactly.

  • F1000 series compatibility: The F1000, F1000D, F1000S, and F1000T all share the same 7.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge, discharge, and PTT transmit cycles on the F1000 platform. The BMS held the voltage rail steady under transmit load and tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold — no erratic shutdowns.
  • First insertion on the Icom dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and firmly reseat it. The Icom charging platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

IC-F1000 radio cutting out the moment PTT is pressed

The F1000 draws a sharp current spike the instant the PTT button is pressed — transmit current climbs fast and briefly. If the battery's BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent event, it trips and cuts power before the radio even keys up. This happens more often with new packs still sitting at storage voltage rather than a full charge. A full charge cycle to 8.4V before first field use prevents the BMS from tripping on that initial transmit surge.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge

The F1000 reads battery level using voltage-threshold detection, not a fuel gauge chip. A new cell delivered at storage voltage — typically around 7.4V — can sit one threshold band below a fully charged cell at 8.4V, making the display read one bar low. This is not a faulty cell. Put the pack through one complete charge cycle in the Icom dock and let it reach 8.4V before drawing any conclusions about capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My F1000 transmits for a second then goes dead — is the new battery tripping out?

Yes — the PTT transmit surge is likely triggering the BMS overcurrent cutoff. This happens when the pack is still at storage voltage on first use, because the resting voltage is too close to the BMS low threshold to absorb the initial current spike. Charge the battery fully in the Icom dock before the first transmission. A full charge to 8.4V gives the BMS enough headroom to handle the PTT surge without tripping.

The Icom charger dock is flashing a fault LED and won't start charging the new pack — what's wrong?

The dock is rejecting the BMS handshake, usually because the contact strip isn't making a clean connection. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly until it clicks. If the fault LED still shows, the cell may have dropped below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold during storage — in that case, try a short charge on a compatible external charger to bring the cell above 7.0V, then transfer it to the Icom dock.

The radio drops to noticeably weaker audio output mid-shift even though the battery shows bars — what causes that?

Sustained RF transmission draws continuous high current, which causes voltage sag across the cell even when resting voltage looks fine. When the pack voltage sags under that load, the F1000 reduces TX output power to stay within its operating window — that registers as weaker audio on the receiving end. This is more pronounced on a partially depleted cell. Start each shift with a fully charged pack at 8.4V to keep the voltage rail stable through sustained transmissions.
