Intermec CN50 / CN51 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-038-001)

This 3.7V, 1950mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Intermec CN50 and CN51 handheld mobile computers. Both units are used for barcode scanning, inventory management, and asset tracking in retail and warehouse environments. It also cross-references OEM part numbers AB24, AB25, and 318-039-001.

• CN50 and CN51 shared platform: Both models run on the same voltage rail and use the same battery bay connector, so one pack covers both. The BMS handshake is identical across the two units — no firmware difference affects charge acceptance.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge cycles on the CN50 and monitored BMS cutoff thresholds. The protection circuit responded correctly to overvoltage and undervoltage conditions, and the dock recognised the pack without error flags.
• First-shift prep for pick-and-pack use: After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before deploying. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first high-frequency scan burst of a shift.

The CN50 dock reads pack status through the battery contacts on the base of the unit. If those contacts have oxidation or debris, the dock can misread the pack as faulty and throw a charging error even with a new cell installed. This is a contact resistance problem, not a pack defect. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and the error clears in most cases.

The CN50 draws power simultaneously from the wireless radio and the scan engine during high-frequency barcode capture. When the cell voltage sags under that combined load — common near the end of a charge cycle — the radio module drops its connection before the scanner powers off entirely. This looks like a network fault but the root cause is voltage sag under dual inrush. Keeping the pack above 3.5V by rotating charged units during sustained burst scanning prevents mid-shift dropouts.
