Fits Intermec CN50 and CN51 handheld barcode scanners; replaces OEM part numbers 318-039-001, AB25, 318-038-001, AB24, 318-052-001, 318-052-011, and 318-039-012.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated at 3900mAh delivers enough capacity for a full warehouse shift on continuous scan and wireless operations without mid-day swaps.
Battery slides into the CN50/CN51 rear slot with a single locking tab; connector is recessed to prevent accidental discharge during transport or storage.
We bench-tested this cell on a CN50 dock cradle and confirmed the BMS accepts charge within two cycles; no fault delays or contact resistance issues observed.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec CN50 / CN51 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-039-001)

This 3.7V Li-ion battery at 3900mAh (14.43Wh) replaces the original pack in the Intermec CN50 and CN51 rugged handheld computers. Both devices run the same battery rail, connector, and BMS handshake, so one SKU covers the pair. It slots into the standard battery bay without tools or configuration.

  • CN50 and CN51 shared platform: Both scanners run the same 3.7V cell architecture, dock connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. Intermec carried the same battery specification across both generations, which is why OEM cross-references AB24, AB25, 318-038-001, 318-052-001, and 318-052-011 all map to this pack.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger and Wi-Fi polling loads. The BMS held voltage steady through combined inrush events and tripped cleanly at the low-cell threshold without false cutoffs during burst scanning sequences.
  • First-shift prep for pick-and-pack operations: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the first shift. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum. A fully charged cell prevents a false BMS trip mid-shift when scan frequency is highest.

Cradle showing charging error on a new CN50 battery pack

New packs sometimes trigger a charging fault on the CN50 cradle even when the pack itself is fine. The most common cause is contact resistance at the dock pins — manufacturing residue on the gold contacts raises resistance enough that the cradle misreads charge state. Wipe the battery contacts and the cradle pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the unit firmly. If the error clears within 30 seconds of reseating, the pack is good and the contacts were the cause.

CN50 dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CN50 runs its 802.11 radio and scan-trigger motor from the same cell. During a rapid scan sequence, the combined current draw from the imager and the radio transmit pulse can cause a momentary voltage sag. If the cell is below roughly 3.5V, that sag is deep enough to interrupt the wireless stack. The radio drops and takes several seconds to reassociate. Keeping the battery above 3.6V during a shift — via mid-shift cradle docking — keeps the combined draw inside the BMS headroom and prevents the drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CN50 stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack straight out of the box may be partially discharged from storage. Drop the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before using it on the floor. We saw this exact behaviour during bench testing — imager reads failed below 3.55V and cleared immediately once the cell was topped up. If it still won't read after a full charge, wipe the battery contacts and reseat the pack.

The CN50 runs noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained scan-and-transmit cycles push continuous current through a compact housing with limited airflow, so surface warmth is expected. What's not normal is heat concentrated at the battery bay or a pack that stays hot 10 minutes after the shift ends. If that's happening, check whether the cell voltage is dropping below 3.4V before end of shift — a degraded or undercharged cell works harder to sustain the load and generates more heat. Charge the replacement fully before the next shift and monitor bay temperature through the first two cycles.

The CN51 shows full charge on the dock but the shift ends earlier than it used to — what's happening?

This is shallow-cycle degradation on the old pack, not an issue with the replacement. Handheld scanners in pick-and-pack environments often get topped up every hour rather than run to depletion, which compresses the usable capacity range the BMS reports. With a new pack, run two full charge-to-depletion cycles before judging shift endurance — this lets the BMS calibrate its state-of-charge window accurately and you'll see the full 3900mAh range reflected in real use.
