7.4V 2600mAh lithium-ion cell delivers stable voltage to thermal print head and paper feed motor throughout shift work.
Connector seats vertically into battery slot with locking tab on right side — orient label facing outward before inserting.
We ran discharge cycles at constant 1.5A draw. BMS engaged cutoff cleanly at 5.5V with no early shutdown or cell imbalance.
After installing this cell, charge fully and print five test receipts before field deployment — thermal head voltage calibration requires the motor load sequence to confirm BMS current profile matches feed pressure specs.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec PB21 / PB22 / PB31 / PB32 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-030-001)

This is a 7.4V 2600mAh Li-ion battery for the Intermec PB21, PB22, PB31, and PB32 mobile thermal printers. These printers are used in retail, logistics, and field service for on-the-spot receipt and label printing away from fixed power. It replaces OEM part numbers 318-030-001, 318-030-003, and AB27.

  • PB21 / PB22 / PB31 / PB32 compatibility: All four models share the same 7.4V battery platform, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all four without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through a full charge-discharge cycle on the PB21. The BMS negotiated cleanly, the thermal head reached operating temperature without voltage sag, and the paper feed motor drew current within expected range under continuous print load.
  • First-use print sequence: After installing, charge the battery fully, then print five test labels or receipts before deploying. The paper feed motor and thermal head together draw a combined current spike on first use — running this sequence confirms the BMS current profile is correctly set for the new cell.

Why the PB21 stops printing after sitting unused for weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. The PB21's BMS has a low-voltage lockout that engages when the cell drops below roughly 6.0V — the printer powers on but refuses to drive the thermal head or feed motor. Placing the printer on charge for 30–60 minutes before use is enough to push the cell above the BMS re-enable threshold. If the printer still won't print after charging, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a BMS re-initialisation cycle.

Faded or uneven print on a battery that shows charge

The PB21 thermal head needs a stable voltage to maintain consistent head temperature across the full print width. When a degraded cell sags under thermal head current draw, head temperature drops mid-line, producing faded or patchy output. The battery gauge can show 50% or more while this is happening because gauge accuracy degrades with cell age. If print quality improves significantly when the printer is on mains power, the cell has lost capacity and needs replacement — not a print density setting adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PB21 shows it's connected to Bluetooth but drops the connection mid-job — could the battery cause this?

Yes. The PB21's Bluetooth radio draws a secondary current spike during active data transfer. When the cell voltage sags under combined radio and thermal head load, the radio drops out first — it's the printer's lowest-priority subsystem. This is common in cells that have lost capacity but still read a partial charge on the indicator. Replace the battery and confirm voltage holds above 7.0V under print load to rule out cell degradation as the cause.

The paper feed jams on the PB31 but clears when I plug into mains power — what's happening?

The feed motor relies on consistent torque, which drops when cell voltage falls below roughly 6.8V under load. At that point the motor can't generate enough pressure to advance heavier label stock or move paper through a tight feed path, so it stalls and jams. This failure mode is easy to misread as a mechanical jam or worn rollers. Check battery voltage under load — if it reads below 7.0V during a feed attempt, the cell is the issue, not the mechanism.

The PB22 powers on and shows full battery but won't start a print job at all — where do I start?

A battery that reads full but can't drive a print job has usually triggered the BMS overcurrent protection — the combined draw from the thermal head and feed motor on job start exceeds what the weakened cell can deliver cleanly. The BMS cuts output to protect the cell, so the printer appears powered but unresponsive. Hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the BMS, then attempt a single test print. If the fault repeats immediately, the cell can no longer sustain the motor-start current and needs replacing.
