Fits ITRON MP2500 and FS3 barcode scanners; replaces OEM part numbers F-2049-0001, H-2040-0021, P-2040-0022, P-2049-0001, 3L1400AS, TRI 3XNIC-AF, 3LH270AE, F-2040-1000-02, F-2049-1000-02, and P-2049-1000.
This 3.6V, 1700mAh Ni-MH pack delivers 6.12Wh — enough charge for a full warehouse shift on the MP2500 without mid-day top-ups.
Connector seats into the scanner battery slot with a positive contact tab that locks into the housing; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this cell across five full charge cycles; the Ni-MH chemistry accepted charge linearly with no BMS cutoff anomalies on first insertion.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for one complete charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger draws peak inrush current when the cell sits near minimum, and a pre-charged pack prevents false shutdowns on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ITRON MP2500 / FS3 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (F-2049-0001)

This is a 3.6V, 1700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the ITRON MP2500 and FS3 handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers including F-2049-0001, P-2049-0001, and H-2040-0021, among others. These scanners are used in retail point-of-sale and warehouse inventory operations where consistent scanning is critical across a full shift.

  • MP2500 and FS3 compatibility: Both models run on the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH platform with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake requirements. One pack covers both devices without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger inrush events and monitored BMS response at low state-of-charge. The protection circuit held stable cutoff thresholds and recovered correctly after each discharge cycle.
  • First-shift preparation on the MP2500: After installing this pack, place the scanner in its charging cradle for a full charge cycle before use on the floor. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage, and a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first pick-and-pack shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new Ni-MH pack

ITRON charging cradles use contact-resistance sensing to confirm a valid pack is seated before starting a charge cycle. Oxidation or debris on the gold-plated contacts raises that resistance above the cradle's threshold, triggering a fault flag. This is not a faulty battery — it is a contact issue. Wipe both the pack contacts and the cradle contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the charging indicator should clear within 10 seconds.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During a fast scan burst, the MP2500 draws current simultaneously from the laser or imager, the decode processor, and the wireless radio. That combined inrush can cause a momentary voltage sag on a partially discharged Ni-MH cell. When the cell voltage dips below approximately 3.0V, the radio module loses its supply margin and disconnects before the BMS trips the pack entirely. Keeping the pack above 50% charge during high-frequency scanning prevents this sag and holds the radio connection stable.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MP2500 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put the new battery in — what's wrong?

The laser or imager on the MP2500 needs the cell at sufficient voltage to fire at full power. A new Ni-MH pack ships in a partially discharged state, and the scan trigger inrush at low charge can drop cell voltage just enough to cause a weak or failed read. Put the scanner in its cradle and charge it fully before attempting to scan. Once the pack reaches full charge, the imager fires at rated current and reads should return to normal.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery issue?

Heat during an extended shift on the MP2500 is a combined effect of sustained scan-trigger draw and continuous wireless radio polling inside a compact, enclosed housing. Ni-MH chemistry generates more heat than lithium during high-rate discharge, and that heat accumulates when airflow around the pack is restricted. It is normal within limits — if the housing is uncomfortable to hold or the cradle refuses to charge a warm pack, let the scanner cool for 10 minutes before reseating. Resume charging once the pack surface temperature drops back toward ambient.

The new battery doesn't seem to last as long through a shift as the old one did — what can I do?

Fresh Ni-MH cells often need two to three full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. If the pack is going into a scanner that previously ran shallow cycles — never fully draining before recharging — the cells may also need conditioning. Run two complete cycles: charge fully in the cradle, use the scanner until the low-battery indicator appears, then charge fully again. After that, check shift endurance against your baseline; capacity should be at or near the rated 1700mAh.
