Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol PDT6100 / PDT6140 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (21-41321-03)
This is a 3.6V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Symbol PDT6100 series handheld barcode scanners. It fits the PDT6100, PDT6140, PDT6142, and PDT6146 — mobile data terminals used in retail, warehouse, and asset-tracking environments. OEM part numbers covered include 21-41321-03, SM-6100M, 21-33061-01, 21-38678-03, and 21-39369-03.
- PDT6100 series fit: The PDT6100, PDT6140, PDT6142, and PDT6146 all run the same 3.6V battery rail with an identical connector and BMS handshake. One pack covers the full range — no pinout differences between these models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger and wireless polling loads. The BMS held stable across the draw spikes, and cell voltage stayed within the expected Ni-MH discharge curve without premature cutoff.
- First-shift prep for pick-and-pack: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the first shift. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum, and a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during high-frequency scanning bursts on day one.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
Ni-MH packs that sit in storage ship with low resting voltage. Some Symbol cradles interpret this as a fault condition rather than a deeply discharged cell. The dock checks pack voltage on contact, and if it reads below its threshold, it throws an error instead of initiating a charge cycle. Wipe the battery contact pads and cradle contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and the cradle should recognise it correctly and begin charging.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The PDT6100 series drives both the scan laser and the wireless radio simultaneously during active scanning. During a rapid burst, the combined inrush from the scan trigger and radio polling can spike the draw beyond what a degraded or partially charged cell can sustain. Voltage sags briefly, the radio drops its connection, and the scanner stalls mid-session. Ensure the pack is fully charged before a high-frequency scanning shift — a full cell handles the combined draw without the voltage sag that trips the radio.

Frequently Asked Questions
The scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — laser fires but nothing registers. What's wrong?
A newly installed Ni-MH pack often sits below the voltage the PDT6100's laser driver needs for a clean read. The laser fires at reduced intensity, which looks normal but doesn't produce a signal strong enough for the decoder. Put the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before using it. Once the pack reaches full charge, laser output returns to operating level and reads should recover immediately.
My PDT6140 gets warm on the back casing after a couple of hours of scanning — is the battery causing that?
Sustained scanning combined with continuous wireless polling generates steady current draw through the cell. In an enclosed housing like the PDT6140, that heat has limited paths out, so warmth builds up in the battery bay during long shifts. This is normal under high-duty-cycle use with a healthy pack. If the housing gets hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold, check that the cradle contacts are clean — poor contact forces the charger to push harder on subsequent cycles, which accelerates heat build-up at the cell level.
The new battery drains faster than expected compared to our old packs — same shift length but the scanner dies earlier. What's actually different?
Ni-MH cells need several full charge-discharge cycles to reach their rated capacity. A pack pulled straight from stock and used immediately will deliver noticeably less capacity than a broken-in cell. Run three full cradle charge cycles with normal use between each, and capacity will stabilise at the rated 1800mAh. If endurance is still short after break-in, check scan burst frequency — scan-heavy workflows with wireless active draw significantly more current than lighter scanning duties.
