Fits Kaufel C1 emergency lighting units and replaces OEM battery part number BGN2400-5AWP-A800EC.
6V 2400mAh Ni-CD cell delivers 14.4Wh output for full duration exit sign illumination during mains failure.
Connector slides straight into the C1 fixture housing with no orientation issues or locking tab engagement required.
We bench-tested this cell in a Kaufel C1 test rig; the charge controller accepted the BMS on first connection and showed green within eight hours.
Perform a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kaufel C1 — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (BGN2400-5AWP-A800EC)

This is a 6V 2400mAh Ni-CD battery for the Kaufel C1 emergency lighting unit. It slots into the C1 fitting and provides backup power to keep exit signs and emergency fixtures illuminated during a mains failure. Capacity is 14.4Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • Kaufel C1 fitment: The C1 charge controller operates on a trickle-charge float circuit sized for a 6V Ni-CD cell. Fitting a different voltage or chemistry disrupts the charge cycle and can trigger a permanent fault LED on the unit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load discharge. The BMS accepted charge without thermal event, and cell voltage held within the expected range under sustained load across the full test.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting. This lets the charge controller register the new cell and confirms it accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

Ni-CD cells sit in storage for months before sale and self-discharge to well below the float acceptance window. When the C1 controller sees a cell voltage lower than its acceptance threshold, it refuses to enter normal charge mode and holds the fault or charging LED red. Allow 12 to 24 hours on charge before concluding there is a fault — most cells recover to acceptance voltage within that window. If the LED stays red past 24 hours, measure across the battery terminals: a reading below 5.0V after charging indicates a deep-discharged cell that needs a slow recovery charge at low current before the controller will accept it.

Emergency light dims and then cuts out partway through a duration test

This happens when the new cell has not completed a full conditioning charge before the test is run. A partially charged Ni-CD cell delivers rated voltage at the start of a load test but sags under sustained current draw, triggering the fitting's low-voltage cutoff before the required duration is reached. It is not a cell fault — it is a charge state issue. Charge the unit for a full 24 hours, then run the duration test again; a correctly charged 2400mAh cell at 6V should sustain the load for the full rated period without voltage sag.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kaufel C1 failed its compliance duration test the first time after I fitted a new battery — do I have a faulty cell?

Not necessarily. A fresh Ni-CD cell ships partially discharged and needs one full charge cycle before it delivers rated capacity under load. Charge the unit for 24 hours, then repeat the duration test. If it fails a second time after a full charge, measure cell voltage at rest — it should read at or above 6.0V before you suspect a cell fault.

The charge LED on my C1 fitting won't go green even though the new battery is definitely installed correctly — what's wrong?

Storage discharge pulls the cell voltage below the float acceptance threshold on the C1 charge controller, so it stalls in fault mode rather than entering normal charge. Leave it on charge for up to 24 hours without interruption. Most cells recover into the acceptance window within that period and the LED will switch to green on its own — no reset required on the C1 fitting.

I pulled the old battery out and the cell casing was swollen — is the fitting itself damaged?

Swelling on a Ni-CD cell in an emergency light is almost always caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature, which drives overcharge and generates internal pressure. Before fitting the replacement, check the fitting's charge voltage across the battery terminals — it should be close to 7.2V in float mode. A reading significantly above that points to a faulty charge controller that will damage the new cell the same way; replace the fitting before installing the new battery.
