Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Klein Tools 500 MCM Copper Series — 20V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BAT207T44H)
This is a 20V Li-ion replacement battery pack for Klein Tools cordless equipment, rated at 4000mAh (80Wh). It fits the 500 MCM copper, 500 MCM aluminum, 56 ACSR, D3 groove, and more than a dozen other Klein Tools platforms that share the same 20V battery interface. Direct swap with OEM packs listed under BAT207T44H, BAT207T24H, BAT20GD1, and related part numbers.
- Multi-model 20V platform fit: Klein consolidated its cable-pulling and electrical installation tools onto a shared 20V rail and connector footprint. That means one battery pack spans the full range — from compression tools to cable cutters — without charger or connector changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated high-inrush trigger cycles on compatible Klein Tools equipment. The BMS handled motor-start current spikes without tripping, held voltage under sustained load, and communicated charge state correctly to the OEM charger.
- First-use break-in on cable cutters and compression tools: On first use, run the tool at partial load for two cycles before full-torque cuts or crimps. This lets the BMS profile inrush current from the motor before locking its overcurrent thresholds — skipping this step can cause nuisance BMS trips on the first heavy cut.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge in Klein 20V cable tools
Cable cutters and compression tools draw a sharp current spike the moment the trigger is pulled — far higher than the steady running current. A fresh pack or a pack returning from storage has not yet profiled this inrush pattern, so the BMS may read the spike as an overcurrent fault and cut power instantly. This is not a defective battery. Running two partial-load cycles first trains the BMS thresholds to the actual motor demand. After break-in, the BMS distinguishes normal inrush from a true fault and stops tripping.
Charger shows blinking red on a new or stored 20V Klein pack
Li-ion chargers require the pack to present a minimum voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell — before they enter charge mode. After extended storage, cell voltage can drop below that threshold, and the charger rejects the pack with a blinking red light rather than starting a charge cycle. To recover it, place the pack on the charger and hold it there for five to ten minutes without removing it — some Klein chargers will attempt a low-current pre-charge pulse before switching to full charge mode. If the light does not change to solid or cycling within fifteen minutes, check that resting cell voltage is above 2.5V per cell before assuming the pack is unrecoverable.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Klein cable cutter stops dead on the first trigger pull — pack looks fully charged but tool cuts out immediately. What's happening?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by motor-start inrush, not a faulty battery. The BMS on a new or recently stored pack hasn't profiled the motor's startup current spike, so it reads the surge as a fault and shuts down. Run the tool at partial load — short, light actuations — for two full charge cycles before attempting full-force cuts. After that, the BMS sets its thresholds around the actual inrush and stops tripping on normal trigger pulls.
The tool runs but feels weak and bogs down mid-cut on heavy cable. Full charge shows on the indicator — why?
That's voltage sag — the pack can't hold rail voltage under the sustained high-current draw of a heavy cut. The most common cause on a used pack is increased internal resistance from cell degradation or oxidised terminal contacts on the battery rail. Clean the pack's contact points with isopropyl alcohol and a contact brush, then check that the pack rests above 20V on a multimeter after a full charge. If rail voltage drops below 16V under load, cell resistance has risen past the point where the pack can sustain heavy motor demand.
This battery loses noticeably more capacity when I'm working outside in cold weather. Is something wrong with the pack?
Nothing is wrong — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces usable capacity and increases voltage sag under load. Store the pack indoors at room temperature until you're ready to use it, and keep it in a jacket pocket or insulated bag between uses rather than leaving it on the tool in the cold. A pack warmed back to above 10°C will recover most of its rated capacity. If you consistently work below freezing, starting each shift with a freshly charged, room-temperature pack gives the most usable output per charge.
