Fits Kress 180 AFB, APF 180/1.5, APF 180/2.1 cordless drills; replaces OEM part PF 180/4.2.
18V 3000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 54Wh; provides sustained power for drilling and fastening cycles.
Connector slides straight into tool housing with positive-first engagement; locking tab seats with audible click.
We bench-tested this pack on the 180 AFB motor-start inrush profile; BMS held at 35A threshold without nuisance cutoff.
On first use with the 180 AFB, run the tool at half trigger for two cycles before maximum torque applications—lets the BMS profile motor inrush current before locking overcurrent protection thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kress 180 AFB Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PF 180/4.2)

This is an 18V, 3000mAh (54Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Kress 180 AFB, APF 180/1.5, and APF 180/2.1 cordless power tools. It matches the OEM voltage rail, connector footprint, and BMS communication protocol of the original PF 180/4.2 pack. Slot it into your existing charger and tool — no adapters required.

  • 180 AFB, APF 180/1.5, APF 180/2.1 compatibility: All three models run the same 18V platform, share the same slide-in connector, and use identical BMS handshake logic. One pack works across all three without firmware or charger changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated trigger-pull events and sustained drilling loads. The BMS handled motor-start inrush current without nuisance tripping, and cell voltages balanced correctly across full charge and discharge cycles.
  • First-use load conditioning on the 180 AFB: On the first two uses, run the drill at half torque before pushing maximum load. This gives the BMS time to profile the motor's inrush current signature and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before high-demand applications.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush with the 180 AFB

When you pull the trigger on a cordless drill, the motor draws a spike of current — often three to five times the running load — for the first fraction of a second. If the BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent fault, it cuts the pack off instantly. A new or freshly charged replacement pack can trip this threshold more easily until the BMS has logged a few real-world motor cycles. Two or three half-load runs let the BMS calibrate its overcurrent window to the actual motor draw of the 180 AFB before you go full torque.

Charger not recognising the new pack after storage

Li-ion packs can self-discharge below the charger's acceptance threshold during storage — typically under 2.5V per cell. When that happens, the charger sees a pack voltage that looks like a dead or faulty cell and refuses to begin a charge cycle. Some Kress chargers signal this with a blinking or solid red LED and no green transition. If this happens, leave the pack seated in the charger for 10–15 minutes — many chargers will trickle-feed a small recovery current to bring cell voltage above the acceptance floor, at which point the normal charge cycle begins. If the charger still does not respond, check each cell group is above 3.0V before reseating.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kress 180 AFB cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — why does a new battery do this?

That cutout is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current, not a faulty battery. The spike when the motor first spins can exceed the BMS threshold before it has logged the drill's actual draw profile. Run two or three half-load cycles first — light drilling, no high-torque fastening — and the BMS will reset its overcurrent window to match the 180 AFB motor. After that, full-load trigger pulls should hold without cutting out.

The drill feels weak and bogs down mid-hole on the new pack — it charged fully but the motor lugs under load.

That symptom points to voltage sag from high contact resistance at the battery rails, not a capacity problem. Clean the battery terminals and the tool's contact pins with a dry cloth or fine abrasive — oxidation on either surface adds resistance, which causes the rail voltage to drop under load and makes the motor lug. Reseat the pack firmly and retest. If the sag persists, measure rail voltage under load with a multimeter — it should stay above 15V at the tool's contacts during a sustained drilling pass.

The drill runs fine indoors but loses noticeable power when I use it in a cold garage or outside in winter — is the battery failing?

Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which causes voltage to sag more under load and triggers the BMS to pull back current delivery sooner. This is a chemistry behaviour, not a defect. Warm the pack to room temperature before use — even 15 minutes indoors is enough to bring resistance back down. If performance still feels degraded after warming, check that the pack is fully charged before heading into the cold, as a partially charged pack will sag harder in low temperatures.
