Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge / X130e / X121e — 3V Lithium CMOS Backup Battery (04W0331)
This is a 3V lithium coin cell rated at 150mAh (0.45Wh), sourced to match OEM part number 04W0331. It fits the ThinkPad Edge, ThinkPad Edge 11, ThinkPad 13, ThinkPad X130e, ThinkPad X121e, and related models. The CMOS cell powers the RTC circuit and SRAM on the motherboard, holding BIOS settings, clock data, and boot configuration whenever mains or main battery power is absent.
- ThinkPad Edge platform fit: These models share the same motherboard RTC circuit layout and connector footprint. The 04W0331 cell uses a two-wire lead with JST-style connector rather than a bare coin cell socket, so the physical connector must match — not just the voltage.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We measured open-circuit voltage before shipping. Every cell leaves at or above 2.95V. We confirmed the BMS handshake is not involved — this is a passive cell with no protection circuit. The motherboard reads retention voltage directly from the cell leads.
- Post-install clock correction: After fitting this cell, enter BIOS immediately and set the correct date and time, then save and exit. The RTC circuit resets to a default value — typically 2000-01-01 — on any power interruption. The new cell will hold whatever value you set from that point forward.
BIOS clock resetting to year 2000 after every power cycle
The ThinkPad Edge RTC circuit requires the CMOS cell to hold above 2.8V to retain clock and settings data. Once the original cell drops below that threshold, the RTC loses state every time AC power is removed. A depleted cell can still show 2.5–2.7V on a multimeter at rest — that reads as "present" but falls below retention voltage the moment the circuit draws current. Replacing the 04W0331 cell and setting the clock in BIOS resolves this immediately.
CMOS checksum error on boot after fitting a new coin cell
A checksum error on first boot after a cell swap is normal on these ThinkPad models — it means the BIOS detected that stored values no longer match the checksum from the previous session. The cell itself is not faulty. Enter BIOS setup, verify settings, set the correct date and time, then save and exit. If the error persists on the next cold boot, check that the connector is fully seated — a partial connection causes intermittent voltage drop that triggers another checksum failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ThinkPad Edge 11 shows the wrong date every time I unplug it — even with a brand new 04W0331 fitted. What's wrong?
The most likely cause is the connector not making full contact with the motherboard socket. The 04W0331 uses a two-wire lead, and the JST-style connector can seat partially without clicking into place. Remove the cell, reseat the connector firmly, then boot and set the date in BIOS to the correct value and save. If the date holds after a full power cycle with AC removed, the connection is good.
The replacement coin cell reads only 2.7V on my multimeter — did I receive a dead cell?
No. Lithium coin cells ship in storage state and the open-circuit voltage on a passive meter load can read 2.7–2.9V before the cell is in active use. Once installed, the cell rises to 3.0V under the low-current draw of the RTC circuit within a short period. If the BIOS clock holds correctly after you set it and remove AC power, the cell is functioning at the correct retention voltage.
The contact spring inside the CMOS connector socket looks flattened — will a new 04W0331 cell fix my clock reset issue?
A flattened or oxidised contact spring means the new cell will have the same intermittent connection as the old one, so replacing the cell alone will not fix it. Use a fine flat tool to gently lift the spring contact by 0.5–1mm and clean any oxidation with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. Reinstall the new cell, confirm it seats with resistance, then set the clock in BIOS and verify it holds after removing AC power.
