Fits Luminox Planet D, Planet 60 D, and LUM17002/LUM17003 units; replaces OEM part numbers MGN74111, 804133, and MXN0051.
4.8V, 800mAh Ni-CD cell delivers the capacity this emergency fixture needs to pass rated duration testing during mains failure conditions.
Connector slides into the vertical slot with the tab oriented toward the spring contact; no force required on insertion or removal.
We ran a full charge cycle on the test bench; the BMS accepted the cell at 4.8V and held float voltage without drift across eight hours.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration—this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register capacity before the next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LUMINOX Planet D Series — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (MGN74111)

This is a 4.8V, 800mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for the LUMINOX Planet D emergency lighting range. It fits the Planet D, Planet 60 D, LUM17002, and LUM17003 units. Swap it when the existing cell no longer holds charge or the fitting fails its duration test.

  • Planet D and Planet 60 D compatibility: These fittings share the same charge controller board, 4.8V cell voltage, and physical bay dimensions. The BMS expects a nominal 4.8V Ni-CD pack — swapping chemistry to NiMH here will cause charge controller misreads and failed duration tests.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load test at rated current. The BMS accepted the cell voltage, charge current stabilised within the expected window, and the fitting transitioned correctly from charging to float state.
  • First-cycle activation on reinstalled fittings: On fittings returned to service after a long dormancy, hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of installation. This confirms the cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Charge indicator staying red after new cell installation

A new Ni-CD cell shipped from storage typically sits at a lower resting voltage than the charge controller's float acceptance window. Some Planet D charge boards interpret this as a fault rather than a normal low-voltage start state. Leave the fitting powered for 12–16 hours. If the indicator is still red after that period, check that the cell connector is fully seated and the tab contacts are making clean metal-to-metal contact — a partial connection holds the cell voltage artificially low at the controller input.

Emergency light dims and cuts out partway through a duration test

This happens when a new cell is tested before it has completed at least one full charge cycle. Ni-CD cells shipped in a partially discharged state do not deliver rated capacity on the first draw. The fitting dims because cell voltage drops below the LED driver's minimum input rail before the test duration is complete. Charge the fitting for a full 24 hours, then rerun the duration test — the cell will deliver its rated 800mAh on the second cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Planet D passed installation fine but failed its annual duration test three months later — why?

Ni-CD cells in continuously trickle-charged fittings can develop voltage depression if they never experience a full discharge cycle between tests. The cell voltage looks fine on the charger but collapses early under load. Run a manual full-duration test to deliberately discharge the pack, then allow a complete 24-hour recharge before the next compliance test — this breaks the partial-cycle pattern and restores usable capacity.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I confirmed the new cell is seated correctly — how do I clear it?

Some Planet D charge controller boards latch a fault state and do not self-clear when the root cause is resolved. Disconnect mains power to the fitting for 30 seconds, then restore it. This forces the controller to reinitialise and re-evaluate cell voltage from a cold start. If the fault LED clears within the first charge cycle, the latch was the issue — not the cell.

The replacement cell is swelling inside the fitting after a few months — what causes that?

Swelling in Ni-CD cells is a symptom of sustained overcharge, usually from a charge controller that has aged out of regulation. The controller delivers continuous trickle current above the safe float rate, and the cell vents gas internally. Check the charge board — if the fitting is more than five years old, the controller resistors or charge IC may have drifted outside spec. Replace the charge board alongside the cell to stop the same damage recurring.
