Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LUX-TOOLS ABS-12-Li — 12V Li-ion Replacement Battery (3I(NCM)R19/65)

This is a 12V, 5000mAh Li-ion battery pack for the LUX-TOOLS ABS-12-Li cordless drill/driver. It replaces OEM part number 3I(NCM)R19/65 when the original pack no longer holds charge or fails to power the tool through a full work session. Capacity and voltage match the stock pack exactly.

  • ABS-12-Li platform fit: The ABS-12-Li uses a 12V slide-pack format with a specific connector pitch and BMS handshake tied to that voltage rail. This pack matches the contact arrangement and cell configuration the drill's electronics expect, so the charger and tool both recognise it without error codes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated motor-start cycles on a 12V drill platform. The BMS handled inrush current on trigger pull without tripping, and cell voltage recovery between cycles stayed within the expected range for a fresh 5000mAh NCM pack.
  • Break-in load cycling: On first use, run the drill at half load — small pilot holes or low-torque fastening — for two full charge-discharge cycles before tackling maximum-torque applications. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you hit it hard.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush during heavy drilling

When you press the trigger on the ABS-12-Li under load, the motor draws a sharp current spike in the first few milliseconds — often three to five times the running current. A BMS that hasn't yet profiled this drill's inrush signature can interpret that spike as a fault and cut power instantly. This is more likely with a new or freshly stored pack whose BMS hasn't logged a motor-start event yet. Running two break-in cycles at half load trains the BMS to distinguish normal inrush from a genuine overcurrent condition.

Tool bogs under load mid-task and feels underpowered

If the drill slows noticeably under sustained load rather than cutting out completely, the cause is usually voltage sag — cell voltage dropping under current demand before the BMS trips. On a 12V pack this typically shows as rail voltage falling below 10V under load, which the motor feels as reduced torque. Check the slide-pack contacts on both the tool and battery for oxidation or debris; even minor contact resistance multiplies under current draw and worsens sag. Clean contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and retest at the same load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ABS-12-Li drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — then works again after a few seconds. What's happening?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by motor-start inrush. When the drill motor spins up under load, it pulls a sharp current spike that a new or storage-conditioned pack can misread as a fault. The BMS resets after a few seconds, which is why the tool comes back. Run two light-load cycles first — small holes, low-torque screws — so the BMS profiles the motor's inrush signature before you drive it hard.

The charger blinks red and won't accept this new pack. The original battery charged fine on the same charger.

A pack that's sat in storage can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold — typically around 10V on a 12V Li-ion system. The charger sees a cell voltage it considers unsafe and refuses to initiate a full charge cycle. Some chargers have a recovery or conditioning mode; if yours does, activate it. If not, a compatible Li-ion charger with a lower acceptance threshold (around 8–9V) can bring the cells up enough for the main charger to then take over normally.

The drill ran fine all summer but now feels sluggish in the garage — same tasks, noticeably less torque. Temperature dropped recently.

Cold temperatures raise the internal resistance of Li-ion cells significantly — below 5°C the pack can deliver meaningfully less current, which the motor feels as reduced torque. This isn't a fault; it's a chemistry-level limitation of NCM cells. Bring the battery indoors and let it reach room temperature before use — 20–25°C is the working sweet spot. If performance stays weak even at room temperature, check the slide-pack contacts for oxidation and clean them before suspecting cell degradation.
