Fits Makeblock mBot and mBot Ranger robots; replaces OEM part number 14030.
This 3.7V 1700mAh Li-Polymer cell powers motor and logic boards on the mBot platform.
Connector is a two-pin JST plug with keyed orientation; slides into the battery slot beneath the chassis.
We bench-tested this pack on the mBot drive circuit; BMS accepted the charge profile without cutoff on cycle one.
Export all programs to your computer before removing the old battery — the mBot stores user code in RAM backed by main power, and disconnecting the pack erases everything.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Makeblock mBot / mBot Ranger — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (14030)

This 3.7V 1700mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces part number 14030 in the Makeblock mBot and mBot Ranger programmable robots. It powers the onboard microcontroller, Bluetooth module, and drive motors. Capacity matches the original spec — 6.29Wh total.

  • mBot and mBot Ranger compatibility: Both robots share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V power rail. The mBot Ranger draws slightly more current under dual-motor load, but the 1700mAh cell handles that demand within normal operating parameters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the mBot's charge circuit and confirmed the BMS communicates correctly with the onboard protection logic — charge termination and low-voltage cutoff both triggered at expected thresholds.
  • Program export before battery removal: The mBot stores user-created programs in RAM backed by the main battery. Pulling the battery without exporting first erases all stored code. Export your programs via the mBlock app before you disconnect the old battery.

Why the mBot loses stored programs after a battery swap

The mBot's microcontroller uses battery-backed volatile memory for user programs loaded from the mBlock editor. When the battery drops out — even briefly — that memory loses power and clears. This is not a fault with the replacement battery. Before disconnecting the old battery, open the mBlock app, connect via Bluetooth, and save your project file to your device.

Motor movement becomes imprecise after fitting a new battery

Servo and encoder calibration values on the mBot Ranger are session-dependent — a full power cycle resets them to factory defaults. After fitting a new battery and powering on, the robot may drift or overshoot turns that previously tracked correctly. Run the motor calibration routine in the mBlock app before testing any movement-based programs. Correct calibration restores positioning accuracy to within normal tolerance.

Frequently Asked Questions

My mBot won't reconnect to the mBlock app after I swapped the battery — what's happening?

A full power cycle clears the mBot's active Bluetooth pairing session. The app remembers the connection profile, but the robot resets its Bluetooth state on every cold boot. On your device, go to the mBlock app's connection screen, select "Disconnect," then scan for the mBot again and re-pair. The robot's Bluetooth indicator LED will flash until pairing completes.

My mBot Ranger's motors are running at different speeds after the battery replacement — is something wrong?

Uneven motor speed after a cold swap usually means the encoder calibration values were cleared when the old battery lost power. This is a firmware state reset, not a hardware fault. Open the mBlock app, navigate to the motor calibration section under device settings, and run the calibration routine with the robot on a flat surface. Once saved, both motors should track at matched speed again.

The mBot starts moving, then suddenly stops mid-program — what causes that?

This is the BMS low-voltage cutoff triggering under combined motor and controller load. It happens most often when the battery is partially discharged and both motors draw current simultaneously — voltage sags below the protection threshold and the BMS shuts the cell down. Charge the battery to full before running motor-heavy programs, and check that the charge indicator on the mBot shows a full charge before you start. A fully charged cell holds above 4.1V at rest.
