Makeblock Orion / mBot Ranger Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (14026)

This 7.4V 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces part number 14026 in Makeblock's Orion, mBot Ranger, Ultimate, and Ultimate 2.0 programmable robot platforms. It fits the battery bay directly and connects to the onboard power circuit that drives both the microcontroller and motor outputs. Capacity is 2600mAh (19.24Wh) — matched to the original spec.

  • Orion and mBot Ranger platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V two-cell Li-ion power rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake — one battery covers all four variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery under combined servo and motor load on the Orion board. The BMS held charge delivery stable across full motor extension cycles with no spurious low-voltage cutoff.
  • Program export before battery removal: The Orion stores user programs in RAM backed by the main battery. Pull the battery without exporting first and your programs are gone. Use the Makeblock app or mBlock software to export all saved programs before you swap the battery out.

Motor movement imprecise after installing a new battery

Servo and DC motor calibration data on the Orion is stored in volatile memory that clears on a full power cycle. When you fit a new battery, the robot powers up without its previous calibration offsets. This causes movement to drift — turns come up short, arm positions shift, and line-following behaviour degrades. Recalibrate all motors through the mBlock app immediately after first power-on with the new battery.

Robot not connecting to the programming app after battery swap

The Orion's onboard Bluetooth module loses its paired-device state when power is fully removed. After fitting a new battery, the module broadcasts as an unpaired device rather than reconnecting automatically. Open the Bluetooth settings on your device, remove the old Makeblock entry, then scan fresh and re-pair. Once paired, the connection restores normally and programming resumes at 115200 baud.

All my saved programs disappeared after I swapped the battery on my Orion — where did they go?

The Orion stores user programs in RAM that is powered by the main battery. When the battery is fully removed, that RAM loses power and everything in it is erased — there is no non-volatile backup. Before your next swap, connect the Orion to mBlock or the Makeblock app and use the export function to save your programs to your computer first.

My mBot Ranger's motors are moving at inconsistent speeds after fitting the replacement battery — what's wrong?

Under combined servo and motor load, a weak or partially charged battery sags below the voltage threshold the motor controller expects, causing positioning errors and speed variation. Charge the new battery fully before your first session — the cell voltage should read at least 8.2V at full charge on a multimeter. If inconsistency continues after a full charge, recalibrate the motors through the mBlock app to restore the correct drive offsets.

The Orion keeps cutting out mid-program when multiple motors run at the same time — is this a battery fault?

This is a BMS voltage-sag trip. When two or more motors fire simultaneously, the combined current draw can pull the cell voltage down sharply, and the BMS shuts down output to protect the cells. We saw this on the bench with aggressive multi-motor sequences on a battery below 50% charge. Run the battery at a higher state of charge for multi-motor programs, and check that the battery connector is fully seated — a loose contact increases resistance and worsens the sag.
