Delivers 7.2V at 1800mAh capacity using Nickel-Metal Hydride chemistry for full operating shifts.
Connector slides straight into the SP130 battery slot with dual locking tabs that seat flush against the radio housing.
We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on an SP140 dock; the cell voltage tracked steady at seven point two volts with no early BMS cutoff during sustained transmit.
On first insertion into the charger dock, if the fault LED lights, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating firmly.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Maxon SP130 / SP140 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (WWN-MPA1200)

This is a 7.2V, 1800mAh Nickel-Metal Hydride replacement battery for the Maxon SP130, SP130U, SP140, and SP140U two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers WWN-MPA1200, WWN-MPA1400, WWN-MPA1800, MPA1550, and related variants. The SP130 and SP140 are portable land mobile radios used in security, hospitality, and industrial operations.

  • SP130 / SP140 platform fit: The SP130 and SP140 share the same battery bay geometry, contact pin layout, and 7.2V voltage rail. A single pack services both models. The BMS handshake and connector orientation are identical across the U and non-U variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and transmit cycles on the SP130 platform. The BMS held stable under PTT transmit current spikes and returned to standby draw without fault codes or thermal cutoff events.
  • First insertion on the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The SP130 dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the SP130 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

Ni-MH cells leave storage at a reduced resting voltage — typically 6.8V to 7.0V rather than a full 7.2V. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply. If the cell voltage hasn't recovered through at least one full charge cycle, that spike can dip below the BMS undervoltage threshold and trip a momentary cutout. The fix is straightforward: complete one full charge before the first field use. After that initial cycle, the cells stabilise and the cutout stops.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new pack

The SP130 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — it reads resting voltage and maps it to bars. A new pack shipped at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged pack, so the indicator may show one bar short even though the battery is not faulty. Charge the battery fully before reading the indicator. After a complete charge cycle, resting voltage should sit at or above 7.2V, and the bar display will reflect the actual state of charge correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SP130 drops to low transmit power partway through a shift — is the battery failing?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not cell failure. Ni-MH cells under continuous high-draw transmit cycles lose voltage faster than under normal PTT use. If the pack is new, run one full charge-discharge cycle to condition the cells — storage voltage is not the same as a topped-up pack. If the sag continues after two full cycles, check that the gold contact strip is clean and making firm contact, as a resistive connection amplifies voltage drop under load.

The SP130 charger dock flashes a fault LED and won't clear — what's wrong?

The dock fault LED typically means the pack voltage is below the dock's acceptance threshold, which is common on a battery that's been in storage. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists, the cells may be in a deep-discharge state — some Ni-MH chargers have a recovery or trickle mode; switch to that setting and leave the pack for 30 minutes, then attempt a normal charge cycle again.

The SP130 PTT cuts out for a split second mid-transmission on a brand-new battery — is it defective?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by transmit current spiking on a cell that hasn't been through a full charge cycle yet. New Ni-MH packs arrive at storage voltage, not full charge, and the momentary current demand of a PTT transmit event can briefly dip the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold. Charge the battery fully before first use. After one complete charge cycle, the cells stabilise and the mid-transmission cutout stops.
