Fits Icom IC-A14, IC-F14, IC-F14S, IC-F24 and replaces BP-232, BP-232N, BP-232H, BP-230, BP-230N, BP-231, BP-231N, BJ-2000, BP-232WP.
Delivers 7.4V and 940mAh — sufficient capacity for sustained air-to-ground transmit cycles without mid-shift voltage sag on the IC-A14.
Gold contact strip mates to dock with positive terminal forward; battery seats flat with no locking tab — verify full seating before closing the battery door.
We bench-tested against stock IC-A14 dock and confirmed normal bar-indicator climb; BMS accepted the charger handshake on first insertion without fault codes.
On first charge in the Icom dock, if the charging LED blinks instead of steady green, remove the battery and wipe both the dock contacts and the pack's gold strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly — the BMS needs clean contact confirmation before accepting charge current.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Icom IC-A14 / IC-F14 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-232)

This 7.4V, 940mAh Li-ion battery replaces the BP-232 and related OEM packs across the Icom IC-A14, IC-F14, IC-F14S, IC-F24, and over 100 additional Icom handhelds. The IC-A14 is a handheld aviation transceiver used by pilots for air-to-ground and air-to-air communication. Voltage and connector match the OEM specification exactly.

  • IC-A14, IC-F14, IC-F24 platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture, battery footprint, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single pack covers the full range. The connector orientation and contact pad layout are identical across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle on an IC-A14 dock and monitored BMS communication. The protection circuit responded correctly to charge termination and passed overcurrent checks at transmit-level draw without tripping the cutoff.
  • First insertion into aviation dock: If the IC-A14 charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating firmly. The dock requires a clean contact cycle to establish the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.

IC-A14 transmit current spike and BMS overcurrent response

Pressing PTT on the IC-A14 pulls a sharp current spike as the RF stage ramps to full transmit power. A new pack with a conservative BMS may interpret this spike as an overcurrent event and trip the protection circuit momentarily. This shows as a brief squelch or dropout immediately after PTT is pressed — not a range fault. The fix is a full charge cycle before heavy use, which lets the BMS characterise normal draw and stop flagging transmit spikes as faults.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new pack

Fresh Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, not the 4.2V peak of a full charge. The IC-A14 reads voltage thresholds to drive its bar indicator, so a pack at storage voltage will display one or two bars even though the cells are healthy. This is not a fault with the battery. Charge the pack fully before first use and the indicator will read correctly once both cells reach 4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My IC-A14 cuts out for a second right when I press PTT — is the new battery faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the transmit current spike, not a cell fault. The protection circuit on a fresh pack can misread the PTT inrush as an overcurrent event until it has characterised normal draw. Run a full charge cycle on the IC-A14 dock and repeat the test — the trips should stop once the BMS has logged a complete charge-discharge profile. If cutouts persist after two full cycles, check that the contact pads are clean and seated flush in the radio.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never switches to charge mode after I fit this battery — what's wrong?

The dock is rejecting the BMS handshake, usually because the contact strip isn't making clean electrical contact. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat firmly until you feel the latch click. If the fault LED still shows, leave the pack seated for 60 seconds — some Icom docks require the BMS to stabilise above a minimum acceptance voltage (roughly 6.0V) before the charge circuit engages. A pack that has been in deep storage may need that dwell time to recover.

The IC-A14 is showing reduced TX power mid-flight even though the battery was fully charged before departure — what causes that?

Sustained RF output draws continuous high current and causes voltage to sag below the radio's full-power threshold, even on a healthy pack. The IC-A14 steps down TX power automatically when pack voltage drops under load — this is a firmware protection, not a battery failure. At 940mAh capacity, extended back-to-back transmissions will accelerate this sag. Shorten transmit bursts and allow brief pauses between calls to let the cell voltage recover between keyups.
