Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medima Syringe Pump S2 / P2 — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (120049)
This is a 9.6V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Medima Syringe Pump S2 and Syringe Pump P2 infusion devices. It replaces OEM part number 120049 and restores internal power to the pump's delivery and alarm systems. Capacity is 2000mAh (19.2Wh), matching the original cell specification.
- S2 and P2 platform compatibility: Both the Syringe Pump S2 and P2 share the same 9.6V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell format serves both units without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran a full charge-discharge cycle on the bench. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its initialisation sequence, and the protection circuit held voltage within the expected window under a simulated load profile consistent with syringe pump operation.
- Post-installation self-test cycle: After fitting this battery, allow the pump to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification step at startup — cutting power during this sequence triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.
Why the Syringe Pump S2 flags a battery fault in the first 10 cycles
The S2 uses a charge IC that applies conservative thresholds when it encounters a new or unfamiliar cell. Ni-MH cells also have lower initial capacity on the first few cycles before the electrodes fully activate. The BMS compares measured capacity against a stored threshold, and a new cell can fall short until it's been cycled. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use allows the BMS to update its learned capacity value and clear the fault flag.
Pump will not power on after the battery has been in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day at room temperature. A battery stored for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 8.5V for a 9.6V pack — at which point the protection circuit blocks output entirely. Place the battery on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before attempting to power the device. If the charger does not recognise the cell, confirm input voltage is stable and retry; most charge ICs will initiate a recovery charge at low current once the cell voltage climbs above 8.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The pump is showing a low battery alarm straight after I charged the new battery — is the cell faulty?
Almost certainly not. The Medima S2's BMS sets its alarm threshold against a learned capacity value from the previous cell — a new Ni-MH cell delivers lower capacity in the first few cycles before the electrodes are fully activated. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle without interruption, then recharge fully. After that conditioning cycle, the BMS updates its threshold and the alarm clears.
The charge indicator stopped climbing and stuck below 100% on the first charge — what's happening?
The charge IC applies a conservative current limit on an unfamiliar cell to avoid overcharging a new Ni-MH pack. This causes the first charge to terminate early, before the indicator reaches 100%. Discharge the battery by running the pump through a normal use cycle, then recharge from flat. The second charge cycle typically reaches full capacity as the charge IC adjusts to the cell's actual delta-V profile.
The pump shut off mid-infusion during the first week with the new battery — what caused it?
Medical infusion devices place a harder load on a new cell in the first 10 cycles than on a broken-in pack. A new Ni-MH cell has higher internal resistance initially, which causes voltage to sag under load and cross the BMS undervoltage cutoff — even if the state of charge appeared adequate. After 5–10 full charge-discharge cycles, internal resistance drops and voltage sag under load stabilises. Complete at least one full conditioning cycle before placing the pump in clinical use.
