Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Medion MD9960 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (17NO09T180)
This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Medion MD9960 cordless DECT handset and closely related models. It replaces OEM part number 17NO09T180 and fits the MD9960, MD9965, MD9966, and MD9983 handsets. All four models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector, and voltage rail.
- MD9960, MD9965, MD9966, MD9983 fit: These handsets use the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack with identical physical dimensions (44.74 × 20.77 × 10.50mm) and connector pinout. No modification is needed — the pack seats and contacts the same way across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on the bench. The BMS handshake with the base station completed without error, and the cell voltage held steady across normal standby and active RF transmit load.
- First charge on NiMH handset batteries: After installing, place the handset in the base station and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones require this slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a shorter first charge will leave the cells underformed and talk time will fall short of spec for several cycles.
Base station showing no charge light after fitting new NiMH pack
NiMH cells can drop to very low voltages during storage. Many Medion base stations use a threshold detection circuit that expects to see at least a minimum cell voltage before enabling the charge current. If the pack arrives deeply discharged, the base may not register it at all and the charge LED stays off. The fix is to briefly apply a low trickle current externally — or in some cases, simply seating and reseating the handset a few times allows the base circuit to detect the pack and begin charging. Once the cell climbs above roughly 1.0V, the base station resumes normal charging behaviour.
Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement
NiMH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle out of the box. For the first three to five charge and discharge cycles, talk time will be noticeably shorter than the original battery at its best. This is normal cell conditioning — the crystalline structure in the NiMH electrode needs several full cycles to form correctly. Run the handset through full use-then-recharge cycles without interrupting the charge, and talk time will step up each cycle until it stabilises at rated capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Medion MD9960 handset won't re-pair with the base after I swapped the battery — did I break something?
No. Some DECT cordless phones lose their pairing data when the battery is fully removed, because the handset has no power to retain memory. Re-register the handset through the base station's pairing or registration mode — on most Medion bases this means holding the registration button on the base until the LED flashes, then initiating a search from the handset menu. No settings are permanently lost, just the link between handset and base.
The handset is fully charged but range seems shorter than it was with the old battery — what's happening?
NiMH voltage sags under RF transmit load, and a freshly replaced or underformed pack will show a steeper sag than a conditioned one. The DECT transmitter in the handset draws a surge of current each time it sends a signal — if the cell voltage drops too far under that load, transmit power is reduced. Run four to five full charge and discharge cycles to condition the cells, then retest range. If voltage still sags below 3.4V under load after conditioning, the pack may be faulty.
My MD9966 handset is draining flat overnight even though it's sitting in the base — is the battery bad?
This is usually a seating issue, not a failed cell. If the handset is not fully seated, the charge contacts don't make clean contact and the base never actually charges the pack — it just sits there consuming standby current until it's empty. Check that the handset clicks or settles firmly into the base cradle and that the charge LED lights up. If the LED confirms charging but the pack still discharges overnight, clean the contact pins on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth and reseat it.
