Fits Medion MD9986 DECT cordless phone handset, replaces OEM battery CS-ALD180CL.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry restores full talk and standby capacity to this handset model.
Battery connector is a two-pin slide contact; seat fully into handset until locking tab engages.
Bench testing showed voltage rise to 3.6V nominal within first base-station charge cycle; BMS acceptance confirmed.
After installing, place the handset in base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medion MD9986 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the power cell in the Medion MD9986 cordless DECT phone handset. It fits directly into the handset battery compartment and restores talk and standby capability to the unit. Capacity is 700mAh (2.52Wh), matching the original specification.

  • MD9986 handset fit: The MD9986 uses a compact single-cell Ni-MH pack at 3.6V nominal. The handset charging circuit and BMS are calibrated to this voltage range and chemistry — substituting Li-ion or a different voltage pack will trip the protection circuit or fail to charge entirely.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on DECT handset hardware. The BMS accepted charge at the standard trickle rate, and voltage held within the expected window across a full discharge curve without premature cutoff.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base station and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in partial-discharge storage state will not reach rated capacity on a short charge — the slow first charge sets the baseline capacity correctly.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

New Ni-MH cells commonly deliver below-rated capacity for the first three to five full charge-discharge cycles. This is a chemistry characteristic, not a fault — the cells need conditioning before the active material is fully utilised. Run the handset until it signals low battery, then return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat this cycle. By cycle four or five, capacity stabilises at or near the rated 700mAh.

Base station charge light not activating with new pack installed

Ni-MH packs discharged during storage can drop below the voltage threshold the base station uses to detect a valid battery. If the pack voltage falls too low, the base treats it as an absent or faulty cell and withholds charge. Connect the handset to the base and leave it undisturbed for at least two hours — most DECT base chargers apply a recovery trickle that brings the cell up to the acceptance threshold. Once the pack reaches approximately 3.2V, the charge indicator should activate and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MD9986 handset is losing range much faster than it did with the old battery — why?

Range drop on a DECT handset ties directly to transmit voltage. When the Ni-MH pack voltage sags under RF load, the handset reduces transmit power to stay within operating limits. This is most pronounced on a new or unconditioned pack in the first few cycles. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles to condition the cells, and the voltage sag under load will reduce significantly.

The MD9986 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix that?

Some DECT phones drop their pairing data when the handset loses all power during a battery swap, because the registration is held in volatile memory. This is not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the pairing or registration button on the base station — hold it until the base enters pairing mode, then follow the handset menu prompts to complete re-registration.

The MD9986 battery drains completely overnight even though I left it in the base — what is causing that?

Overnight drain while docked points to the handset not making proper contact with the base charging pins, not a battery fault. Check that the handset is fully seated and that the metal charge contacts on both the handset and base are clean and free of oxidation. Wipe the contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator activates. If standby draw continues, check the base power adapter is delivering the correct voltage to the cradle.
