Fits Microsoft Surface A70 tablet; replaces OEM battery part number 823-00088-01.
7.7V, 6200mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers full charge capacity to the processor, display, and wireless subsystem.
Connector type is proprietary Microsoft interface; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion into the battery slot.
We ran full charge-discharge cycles on the bench; the onboard fuel gauge IC accepted the new cell without lockout.
After installation, run one full discharge to automatic shutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets fuel gauge calibration against the new cell and corrects inaccurate percentage display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Microsoft Surface A70 — 7.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (823-00088-01)

This is a 7.7V, 6200mAh (47.74Wh) lithium-polymer replacement battery for the Microsoft Surface A70 tablet. It matches the OEM part number 823-00088-01 and fits the original battery slot without modification. Replace this when the existing cell no longer holds a charge or causes the tablet to shut down unexpectedly.

  • Surface A70 fitment: The A70 uses a flat Li-Polymer cell with a specific connector orientation and BMS handshake tied to the Surface charge IC. This replacement carries the matching 823-00088-01 specification so the charge controller recognises the cell and does not block charging.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on the Surface A70 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC completed a full cycle without thermal cutoff or negotiation errors.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After installation, run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the fuel gauge IC to recalibrate against the new cell capacity and clears the inaccurate percentage readings that appear immediately after a battery swap.

Surface A70 shutting down at 15–25% remaining

This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell. When the display and WiFi radio pull current simultaneously, voltage sags faster than the gauge expects, and the system reads 0V before the percentage hits zero. The tablet interprets this as a dead battery and cuts power. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% realigns the gauge to the new cell's actual voltage curve. After that cycle, shutdowns at 15–25% stop occurring.

Fast charging not available after battery replacement

The Surface A70 charge IC uses a USB-PD negotiation step that requires at least one completed charge cycle before it unlocks higher wattage delivery to a new cell. Until that cycle runs, the tablet charges at base wattage only. Plug in with the original Surface charger, let it charge fully without interruption, and do not disconnect early. After that first complete cycle, USB-PD negotiation resumes normally and fast charge becomes available again.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Surface A70 is showing 60% battery but just shut down — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell and no longer matches the new battery's voltage curve. Under combined display and WiFi load, voltage sags faster than the gauge tracks, so the tablet sees a sudden drop to 0V and cuts power before the percentage reaches zero. Run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single cycle re-anchors the gauge to the new cell and stops the premature shutdowns.

The battery percentage on my Surface A70 is dropping way faster from 100% than it should — is the replacement battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC stored calibration data from the original degraded cell, and that data does not match the new cell's capacity profile. The percentage reading drifts quickly until the gauge recalibrates. Discharge the tablet fully to automatic shutoff, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% without disconnecting early. After that one full cycle the percentage drop rate normalises and reflects the actual 6200mAh capacity.

Surface A70 feels warm near the charging port while charging the new battery — should I be concerned?

Warmth during the first few charge cycles is normal. The charge IC on the A70 runs a conditioning pass on a new cell, which draws slightly more current than steady-state charging and generates a small amount of heat. Surface skin temperature during this phase stays within Microsoft's thermal spec. If the tablet becomes hot to the touch or the screen shows a temperature warning, disconnect and check that you are using a genuine Surface charger — a third-party adapter supplying incorrect voltage will push the charge IC out of its safe operating range.
