Fits Midland 777 Pro Limited Edition and G7 series radios replacing OEM part AVP-17.
6V 700mAh Ni-MH pack delivers sufficient voltage for sustained transmit cycles without sag.
Threaded battery cap connector seats perpendicular to radio body with single-turn locking tab engagement.
We bench-tested across full PTT cycles; BMS accepted dock charge on first insertion without fault LED.
On initial power-up, press PTT for 2–3 seconds before extended transmission — Ni-MH cells need light load settling after storage before full RF draw.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Midland 777 Pro Limited Edition Walkie Talkie — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (AVP-17)

This 6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the AVP-17 pack in the Midland 777 Pro Limited Edition Walkie Talkie, 777 Pro, G7, G7 MAG, and over 128 compatible models. It fits directly into the radio's battery bay with no modification. Voltage and contact layout match the OEM specification.

  • 777 Pro and G7 platform fit: These models share the same 6V battery bay, contact pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full range because Midland kept the power rail consistent across the 777 and G7 lines.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and transmit cycles on the G7 platform. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on first insertion and held steady voltage through repeated PTT bursts without triggering overcurrent cutoff.
  • Contact strip care on first insertion: If the charger dock shows a fault LED when you seat this pack for the first time, remove it, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Midland dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it begins charging.

Why the Midland 777 Pro cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

The 777 Pro draws a sharp current spike the moment PTT is pressed — RF output pulls more current than standby by a significant margin. If the replacement pack ships at storage voltage rather than full charge, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent event and trip the protection circuit. The radio then cuts audio or drops TX entirely, even though the pack is otherwise functional. Charge the battery fully before first transmit use — the dock should show green before you key up.

Bar indicator showing fewer bars than expected on a new AVP-17 pack

New Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage, typically around 5.4–5.6V for a 6V pack. The 777 Pro's voltage-threshold bar indicator reads that as a partially depleted pack, not a full one. This is not a fault with the cell. Run the pack through one full charge cycle in the dock until the LED goes green, then reseat the battery — the indicator should reflect the correct charge state at or above 6.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Midland G7 dock light blinks and never clears after I put in the new AVP-17 — what's happening?

The dock uses a voltage threshold to accept a pack before it starts charging. A new Ni-MH cell at storage voltage can sit below that acceptance threshold, so the dock signals a fault instead of starting a charge cycle. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and dock with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. If the fault clears and charging begins, let the cycle run to completion before use.

The radio transmits fine for the first few seconds, then drops to noticeably weaker audio output — is the pack faulty?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a faulty pack. Ni-MH cells at partial charge can't sustain the current draw of continuous TX, so the radio's protection circuit reduces output power to stay within safe operating voltage. Charge the pack fully until the dock LED goes green, then retest — a fully charged cell holds voltage flat through sustained transmissions at 6V.

The AVP-17 pack sat unused for several months and now the dock won't charge it at all — can it be recovered?

Ni-MH cells in extended storage self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold, and the dock may refuse to initiate a charge cycle on a deeply discharged pack. Some chargers have a reconditioning or trickle mode — check if your dock model supports it and engage that mode first. If the dock accepts the pack in trickle mode, allow a slow charge cycle to bring the cell above 5.4V before switching to normal charge. If the dock shows no response at all after 30 minutes in trickle mode, the cell is below recoverable voltage.
