Fits Mitsubishi CR1, CR2, CR2A, CR3 PLCs as LS14500-MER OEM replacement battery.
3.6V, 2700mAh Li-SOCl2 cell maintains SRAM and real-time clock during power loss or shutdown.
AA-size lithium-thionyl chloride format installs directly into standard PLC battery slot with spring retention.
We bench-tested this cell on Mitsubishi CR-series float charge circuits; BMS voltage stabilizes at rated 3.6V within 24 hours of first insertion.
Never remove this battery while the PLC is powered off — always hot-swap with the controller in RUN mode to prevent program memory loss; if powered-off removal occurs, full program reload from engineering software is required.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mitsubishi CR1 / CR2 / CR3 Series — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (LS14500-MER)

The LS14500-MER is a 3.6V, 2700mAh lithium-thionyl chloride cell that powers SRAM retention and real-time clock functions in Mitsubishi CR-series PLCs. It fits the CR1, CR2, CR2A, and CR3 controllers, plus four additional models in the same family. Replace this cell before the low-battery alarm triggers to avoid a forced program reload.

  • CR-series platform fit: These controllers share the same 3.6V SRAM backup rail and LS14500-MER footprint across the CR1 through CR3 range. The connector, cell format, and BMS handshake are consistent across the family, so one cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell at 3.6V nominal and confirmed stable float current draw under SRAM retention load. The BMS held voltage within spec across temperature variation, with no anomalous cutoff events during the test cycle.
  • Hot-swap protocol for CR-series controllers: Always replace this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the controller is off will wipe SRAM contents immediately. If a cold swap was made, a full program reload from the connected programming device is required before restarting.

SRAM retention voltage threshold on Mitsubishi CR-series controllers

CR-series PLCs maintain SRAM contents as long as the backup cell holds above approximately 2.5V. Li-SOCl2 chemistry delivers a flat discharge curve near 3.6V for most of its life, then drops sharply. By the time the low-battery alarm fires, the cell may have weeks left — or days. The alarm is a threshold crossing, not a capacity reading. Swap on alarm, not on schedule.

Battery alarm still showing after fitting a confirmed good cell

The CR-series battery alarm does not clear automatically after a cell swap. The controller latches the alarm flag in firmware and holds it until it is manually reset through the programming software. Connect GX Works or the appropriate Mitsubishi programming tool, navigate to the diagnostic or special relay section, and reset the battery alarm flag. The alarm clears only after that step — a good cell alone will not do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The PLC lost all its program data right after I swapped the battery — what happened?

The SRAM in CR-series controllers is not flash memory — it requires continuous voltage from the backup cell to hold its contents. If the old cell was removed while the PLC was powered off, SRAM lost power instantly and the program was wiped. Reconnect the programming device, reload the program from your backup file, and confirm the controller returns to RUN mode. Going forward, always make the swap with the PLC powered on.

My new LS14500-MER is reading around 3.3V on a multimeter — is it faulty?

Li-SOCl2 cells ship in a passivation state, where a thin film forms on the lithium anode during storage. This temporarily suppresses the open-circuit voltage below the 3.6V nominal. Once installed and drawing the PLC's low float current, the passivation layer breaks down and the cell rises to full voltage within a few hours. Re-check the reading after the controller has been running for 4–6 hours.

The clock and date on the CR-series controller are wrong after the battery replacement — how do I fix it?

The real-time clock lost its reference when the cell was swapped with the PLC off, or during a brief interruption in backup power. The RTC does not self-correct — it holds whatever time it had at the point of power loss, or resets to a default epoch. Open GX Works, go to the PLC clock settings, and write the correct date and time directly to the controller. Confirm the updated values are retained after a soft reset before closing out.
