Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola R7 / R7A — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PMNN4807)
This 7.4V 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the PMNN4807 series pack in the Motorola R7 and R7A portable two-way radios. It fits professional radio users in security, business, and emergency services who need a direct swap when their original pack no longer holds charge. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly.
- R7 and R7A compatibility: Both models run the same 7.4V rail and use an identical physical connector with the same BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the R7 dock cycle and confirmed the BMS negotiates correctly with the charger, holds the charge curve without cutoff, and delivers full voltage at the transmit contact under PTT load.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the R7 platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the R7 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted battery
New cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, giving roughly 7.4V pack voltage total. When PTT is pressed, the radio draws a sharp current spike to power the RF output stage. If the pack hasn't completed at least one full charge cycle, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent event and trip the protection circuit, cutting audio mid-transmission. A full charge before first use clears this — the BMS resets its overcurrent threshold once the cells have reached rated capacity and the impedance drops to normal operating range.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting this pack
The R7 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits in a lower threshold band than a fully charged cell, so the radio displays fewer bars immediately after fitting. This is not a fault with the cell. Charge the pack fully, and the indicator will reflect the correct voltage band once the pack reaches 8.3–8.4V at full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My R7 drops to low transmit power partway through a shift even though the battery showed full at the start — what's happening?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output. During extended transmissions, the draw on the pack is high enough that cell voltage dips temporarily below the R7's threshold for full TX power, and the radio steps down its output to protect the circuit. It is not a faulty battery — it is the BMS responding to a voltage drop under load. If the pack returns to full bars between transmissions, the cells are healthy; if voltage no longer recovers, the pack needs replacement.
The charger dock fault LED won't clear after I insert the new PMNN4807 battery — how do I fix it?
A fault LED that won't clear usually means the dock rejected the BMS handshake on first insertion. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip and the dock contacts with a dry cloth to clear any oxidation or residue, then reseat the battery with firm, even pressure. If the dock still faults, check that pack voltage hasn't dropped below approximately 5.5V from extended storage — packs at that level need a recovery charge from a compatible external charger before the R7 dock will accept them.
The R7 cuts out completely mid-transmission after the battery sat unused for several months — is the pack dead?
Extended storage can push cell voltage below the BMS recovery threshold, causing the protection circuit to lock out the pack entirely. Connect the battery to a Li-ion charger that supports recovery mode — one that applies a low pre-charge current to cells below 3.0V per cell. Once voltage climbs above that threshold, the BMS unlocks and the dock will accept a normal charge cycle. If the pack does not respond to a recovery charge within 30 minutes, the cells have self-discharged beyond recovery.
