Fits Motorola XTS1500, XTS2500, PR1500, and MT1500 radios; replaces OEM part numbers NTN9815, NTN9815A, NTN9851AR, NTN9851B, NNTN9858, NNTN7335, NNTN7554, NTN9858C, and related variants.
7.4V 3350mAh lithium-ion pack delivers full power output on PTT and sustains RF transmission across extended work shifts without voltage sag.
Connector slides straight into the battery well with gold contact strip facing the radio body; locking tab seats flush against the radio frame.
We bench tested this cell on a DP3000e dock and confirmed clean BMS acceptance on first insertion with proper contact pressure.
On first use with the XTS1500, if the charger dock shows a fault LED, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly — the Motorola platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola XTS1500 / XTS2500 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NTN9815)

This 7.4V 3350mAh Li-ion battery replaces OEM part NTN9815 and its variants in Motorola XTS1500, XTS2500, PR1500, and MT1500 portable land mobile radios. These are professional-grade two-way radios used across public safety, emergency response, and enterprise communications. The pack delivers 24.79Wh of capacity in the same form factor as the original Motorola battery.

  • XTS/MT/PR platform fit: The XTS1500, XTS2500, PR1500, and MT1500 share the same battery bay dimensions, contact pin layout, and 7.4V nominal voltage rail. That is why a single pack covers this group — the BMS handshake protocol and connector are identical across the platform.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and transmit-load discharge on an XTS1500 body. The BMS held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold and did not trip on PTT press — including repeated back-to-back transmissions at full RF output.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Motorola XTS platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the XTS1500 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.75V per cell, not the 4.2V full-charge ceiling. Under a PTT transmit spike, the XTS1500 draws a sharp current burst for RF output. If the pack has not been fully charged first, that spike can pull cell voltage below the BMS overcurrent threshold momentarily, triggering a cutoff that kills the transmission. The radio then resets and returns to standby as if nothing happened. A full charge cycle before first use resolves this — the cells need to reach full voltage before sustaining transmit-load current without sag.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after install

The XTS series uses simple voltage-threshold bar indicators — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a fuel gauge IC reading. A new pack at storage voltage will read one or two bars low immediately after insertion. This is not a capacity defect. Place the battery in the charger and let it complete a full charge cycle. Once cell voltage reaches approximately 8.4V (4.2V per cell), the indicator will display the correct number of bars.

Frequently Asked Questions

My XTS1500 cuts out every time I press PTT on a brand-new battery — is the pack faulty?

Almost certainly not faulty. New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage, which is too low to sustain the current spike the XTS1500 draws during transmit. The BMS trips momentarily and kills the transmission. Put the pack on charge until the dock shows a full green, then test again — the cutout behaviour stops once the cells reach full charge voltage.

The charger dock is flashing a fault LED and won't start charging the new battery — what's wrong?

The Motorola XTS dock requires a clean electrical contact cycle to accept the BMS handshake from a new pack. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip on the back of the pack with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly until it clicks. If the fault LED persists after reseating, check the dock contacts for debris — a single dirty pin will prevent the handshake from completing.

Radio is dropping to low TX power mid-shift even though the battery started the day fully charged — what's causing it?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output. During extended transmit bursts, the cell voltage dips enough for the XTS radio firmware to detect an under-voltage condition and reduce transmit power to protect the pack. It is not a BMS lockout — the radio stays on, but output drops noticeably. If this happens consistently before the shift ends, the original OEM pack has likely aged past usable capacity; the replacement pack at 3350mAh will hold the voltage rail stable under the same load.
