Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard VXD720 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 7.4V 3350mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Vertex Standard VXD720 portable two-way radio. It fits the VXD720 directly, using the same connector and BMS handshake the dock expects. Capacity figures come from the product data — 3350mAh at 24.79Wh.
- VXD720 platform fit: The VXD720 uses a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture. The dock accepts packs that pass a BMS handshake on first insertion — voltage rail, connector pinout, and cell count all have to match before the charger begins. This pack meets those parameters.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a VXD720-class dock. The BMS responded correctly to PTT-triggered transmit surges without tripping overcurrent protection, and the voltage held steady through sustained RF output.
- First insertion contact check: If the dock shows a fault LED when you first seat this battery, remove it, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The VXD720 platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the VXD720 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery
A new Li-ion pack ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, not the full 4.2V. When the radio transmits, it draws a sharp current spike. If cell voltage is already low, the BMS reads an undervoltage condition during that spike and cuts power to protect the cells. The radio goes silent even though the pack reads as charged on the indicator. A full charge cycle before field use eliminates this — the cells need to reach at least 8.0V combined before sustained TX is reliable.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting this pack
The VXD720 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip. Each bar corresponds to a voltage window. A new pack at storage voltage sits in a lower window than a fully charged cell, so the display shows one or two bars even though the pack is not depleted. Charge the battery completely in the dock before reading the indicator — once cells reach full charge voltage, the display will reflect the correct state.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VXD720 drops to low TX power partway through a shift — could this be the battery?
Yes. Sustained RF output pulls continuous current, and if cell impedance rises even slightly, voltage sags under that load. The radio's power management reads the sag as a low-battery condition and steps down transmit power to protect the circuit. Check resting voltage after the shift — if it reads above 7.2V but TX power still dropped, the original pack has cell impedance issues and this replacement will resolve it.
The charger dock fault LED never clears after I insert the new battery — what's happening?
Most dock rejection faults on the VXD720 platform come down to one of two things: a dirty contact strip breaking the BMS handshake, or a cell voltage below the dock's acceptance threshold. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault LED still doesn't clear, the cells are likely at a deep storage voltage — place the pack in a Vertex Standard dock that supports pre-charge, or use a compatible Li-ion charger set to recovery mode until voltage reaches 7.0V, then re-insert.
The VXD720 cuts out the moment I press PTT — it was fine yesterday, what changed?
A PTT press drives a transmit current spike that can momentarily pull cell voltage below the BMS overcurrent threshold. This happens when cells have been partially discharged and haven't been topped up — the resting voltage looks acceptable but can't sustain the spike. It's different from a mid-shift power drop, which is a sustained sag rather than an instant cutoff. Charge the battery fully before your next use; if the cutout still occurs on a full charge, check that the BMS handshake completed correctly by removing, wiping the contacts, and reseating the pack.
